Been a while since I read it, but I thought the Netflix East of Eden did a grand job. Obviously they need to make it work for TV first and foremost. Fabulous acting all round.

You watch this video halfway through and you figure the description was just joking on how bad he's murdering these other kids but no, it is literal

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

Every now and again I see people I worked with in plays for no money doing incredible things and I am of course filled with nothing but happiness at their success.

I want a film about this trip

He may be the first PM but he isn't the first leader, George V had a dragon one. He and Nicholas II both got matching ones when then went to Japan. I don't believe that there's a photograph of George V's one but here's Nicky's (and it's basically the same given how similar the two of them looked).

As a failed actor, I'm much angrier about anyone on telly with no talent than I am about Nepos.

One thing that rankles with me - slightly - about nepo baby discourse, is that seemingly 90% of successful actors in the UK have a massive structural advantage simply from being born rich. To obsess over the 1% who also have famous parents as if THAT'S the problem, misses the forest for the trees.

I just don't feel like Kate Winslet or Timothy Spall's children are what's costing poor kids with acting talent their chance. They're missing out cos London rent is £3k so they're working doubles in Screwfix, while the kids of doctors and architects and executives and literal barons don't have to.

Old joke dept: Deed poll office. "Hello, I'd like to change my name, please" "What's your current name?" "Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores" "Oof, I don't blame you. What do you want to change it to?" "Hitler Mussolini Rodriguez Flores."

Voters in the Peruvian town of Queropalca have chosen their new mayor: Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores.

I'll never forget the question being asked to the speed awareness course I was in. "In a 20 zone, what speed are you legally allowed to drive?" The answers came through "26?" "22?" "It depends on the time of day I heard..." Then the answer came. "20. It's 20mph in a 20 zone" Obvious really.

Once again my favourite genre: drivers sooking over the most easily avoidable things

A few people debating the Nazi Bar analogy, but I'd just like to point out describing a shul as a Nazi Bar is rancid antisemitism in itself.

Paddling (canoeing) across Windermere today, into the teeth of a pretty stiff Force 3 wind - lumpy, and just this side of whitecaps - I came across a swimming squirrel, looking very stressed. Not a planned swim, I'm guessing. It was 300m to either shore, so I'm not sure s/he was going to be okay.

Can’t believe no one has ever thought of the idea of selling us hot food. I, for one, am both excited and, if I’m honest, a little apprehensive about the idea of warm food. www.ft.com/content/bdb6... Subway rival bets hot sandwiches will sell in UK’s ‘cold and rain’

Andy Burnham has plunged the plan for a third runway at Heathrow into doubt by privately telling MPs he has always opposed the project, and the new prime minister is said to be “open minded” about whether it should go ahead. www.ft.com/content/0206...

Quick and simple. A short email written in your own tone of voice. Takes 30 seconds and there could be a large number of them by lunchtime.

Nick Stone@typejunky.bsky.social

Just emailed Burnham to ask him why the fuck he’s not doing anything about the coked-up blackshirts infestation. Will almost certainly achieve nothing but: subject ‘Blackshirts’ to andy.burnham.mp@parliament.uk from enough people might.

I don't know how you all do it. There's something in the news which is really relevant to me and my opinion on it comes from personal experience, but I'm fucked if I'm weighing in on it. Even one disagreement would ruin my day.

Does anyone know why if you ask a smart speaker to play an incredibly famous song it will select a cover version by some twat you've never heard of? Or a live recording from the original artist but when they were 65 and had a voice like broken glass?
