It's kinda amazing how many different ways this technology in general and this company in specific is just... out and out evil.

This post is unavailable.

If you make something with AI that people like - game, movie, music, whatever... ... They don't like the thing you made. They like AI. And they will get it from the AI directly, not from you. You're an unnecessary middleman, and whoever provided your AI can, and will, take your audience from you.

I want to take a moment after the chaos of today to say something about the fandom, and bring up a post from former Dragon Age writer @thatotherwriter.bsky.social It was posted over a year ago when the DA team was laid off, but still applies: Dragon Age isn't dead because it's yours now.

This is such important work, and the thing to keep in mind is that when AI people tell you that games will be personalized for you, this is the kind of thing they are more likely to mean.

Morgan Johnson@poormojo.bsky.social

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

For all our billionaire tech leaders’ claims to be free speech warriors, they seem to have spent the last few days cracking down on it. As the midterm elections approach, reports are streaming in that suggest major social media platforms have become distinctly political in their enforcement.

The pull-quote of how AI will 'Raise the floor and lower the ceiling' is... Really good, too. When art is a vocation, not a set of results... the ability to explore what you're capable of needs an environment with low floors and very, very high ceilings. youtu.be/sC2hb4ae9rQ?...

M. Night Shyamalan's YouTube channel (which is something he has now) came out of nowhere with this great line.

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

Finally having time to listen/watch this... Yeah. 'Learned helplessness', tied to ambitions I've had that have failed, is a big theme of my mental health struggles (and, thankfully, some successes) this year. Very good video. Even the first ten minutes will tell you a lot.

“Just work harder” sounds helpful until you start looking at the conditions people are working under. I’ve been digging into learned helplessness, social mobility and why understanding the game might be more useful than blaming yourself for losing it. youtu.be/e87vZZBvwSI #Inequality

I finally turned my AI scepticism into a (short) essay: '10 Reasons for Refusing Generative AI'. I've tried to make it clear, accessible, and student friendly. Very grateful to all the AI resisters (many on here) who have helped me understand the issues. medium.com/@d.higgins/1...

medium.com10 Reasons for Refusing Generative AIGenerative AI is costly, dehumanising, eugenicist, exploitative, irresponsible, misleading, polluting, stupefying, undemocratic, and…

... This is a sign of triage. Meaning that whoever's running the botfarms is killing activity in places that are low priority/won't be noticed, and are throwing everything they have at the high visibility targets that they HAVE to keep going. ... So places that look normal? Still bot-infested.

That explains a lot

So Danny Trejo was manipulated and tricked into being in Ben Shapiro's newest film. Holy shit.

Humans are social animals. Harming another human being is innately traumatic to humans. This has been studied in soldiers, and in executioners. 'Merciful' execution methods obscure the connection between the executioner and the victim's death. Which is why firing squads aren't widely used. (🧵)

This thing has made me go do a lot of reading tonight, and the Wikipedia page about the last public execution in the United States is well-written. It was Rainey Bethea, a Black man hanged in front of a crowd of 20,000 in 1936, a spectacle which embarrassed Kentucky enough that they ended hangings.

I think people should listen to what the administration trying to bring back spectacle lynchings, race riots, and middle passage-esque deportation voyages are trying to tell you about themselves. bsky.app/profile/bren...
