Justice Michael Kirby: always a hero for decency.

He renewed his long-standing call for a national Human Rights Act, saying there had been encouraging developments with Victoria, Queensland and the ACT now enacting their own “It is when the law protects the poor, the powerless, the vulnerable and the unpopular that it knows its finest hour,”

Great news for lovers of community radio. Today, UTS (in Sydney) confirmed they'll commit to ongoing funding for 2SER-FM. It's in a diminished form, so there's more work to be done, but it survives. WOO HOOO Thank you for all your support so far. Go independent media! www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06...

TOXIC TAXES. There’s an LNP hack in a high rise office somewhere feeling as proud as punch and a clever boy for thinking up such clever alliteration. Hang in there folks. You’re going to hear it a lot. Drink.

Sam Mostyn is a remarkable woman. If we have to have a GG then there is no one finer for the role. Her wisdom and calm sincerity is a balm in these dreadful times. Pity the same can’t be said about some of our other leaders.

"So, is it too late to save the climate? No...The sooner we stop climate change from worsening, the more disasters, famine and death we avert. We might not manage 1.5°C...but every tenth of a degree counts. The faster we...shift, the better our climate future." theconversation.com/earth-is-hea...

theconversation.comEarth is heading for 2.7°C warming this century. We may avoid the worst climate scenarios – but the outlook is still direThe world seems to have avoided truly catastrophic climate scenarios, and global emissions may be about to peak. But we’re by no means out of danger

This election campaign is pretty depressing in terms of the vision being presented for our country. But Dutton rolling out his 20-year-old son to ppl to pretend that he, Dutton the Dad, ‘gets’ how hard it is for parents watching their kids struggle - WHEN HE’S A MULTIMILLIONAIRE is so gross

Climate change is a huge environmental and societal problem. Climate change is not the only environmental and societal problem. For those journalists and media outlets that still seem to not get this, we’re in the midst of a biodiversity extinction crisis. It’s a global existential crisis.

Dutton’s statement today tries to suggest Net Migration under him will be 100,000 less than under Labor but without specifying an actual target for 25-26 or 26-27 or the policies to get to that target. Treating Aussies like mugs.

Don’t let facts get in the way of spin.

Greg Jericho@grogsgamut.bsky.social

I've been fact checking Dutton's claim that grocery bills have gone up 30% (nope more like 12%) And Ted O'Briend's number that power bills have gone up $1,300 (nope more like $500-$600). Check out the live blog for all the reality rather than the crap live.australiainstitute.org.au/2025/04/aust...

30 min of Peter Dutton’s budget reply and no plan for wages or to support wage rises. You can’t address cost of living without a plan for wages. His only policy is cutting rights, jobs and a vision for young ppl to get extra shifts at the pub servicing business ppl lunches

Thank you SO much to the generous souls who've already donated and/or shared my fundraising page! I really appreciate your support of this challenge and its vitally important cause, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research. My legs are tired but my heart is full.

Professor Euan Ritchie FAMS@euanritchie.bsky.social

Ok everyone, to support my amazing wife @scidocmartin.bsky.social, and all affected by breast cancer, I'm going to do 174 squats each day for every day of March. If you can donate or share my page that'd be awesome, thanks! fundraise.nbcf.org.au/fundraisers/...

I was going about my normal duties representing the good working class folk of Dickson, such as myself, when I slipped and accidentally fell into the property market. On 25 occasions. As far as I’m concerned that is the end of the matter. Good day

Dutton’s Smokescreen Insurance A vote for Peter Dutton’s Liberal Party is a vote for more inaction on climate AND cost-of-living. Proof? His unwillingness to address the real reasons your insurance premiums are rising.

Today I had a meeting with 4 other Indigenous women; all from remote communities; all with psych degrees. A moment that needs to be acknowledged. This is the “new Aboriginal” & the world better get used to it. We are no longer the “support act” to the psychologist; we ARE the psychologist #ArmyBuilt

Watch all the righteous clutch at their pearls and swoon at Grace Tame’s latest protest. We can be outraged by a Fuck Murdoch T-shirt but not so much by what is going on in USA currently.

Tony Jones who engaged in the Sydney/Melbourne coffee debate by announcing that he’s strictly an instant man showed he’s perhaps not the best choice to call an international tennis tournament. #hokey #australianopen Embarrassing

On this HSC day, a big shout out to all the teachers at non-selective, non-glamorous state schools who put in loads of unpaid overtime & bust their arses to support their students & help them get the best results they can, even if they'll never top the state. You are appreciated.

Former Nine Entertainment CEO Hugh Marks has been announced as the new managing director of the ABC. The same Hugh Marks who organised a $10,000-a-head Liberal Party fundraiser at Nine when he worked there! The ABC is no longer "our ABC". 😠 #auspol #journalism

What a waste of human potential. They had reformed and were changed men who were used by the authorities as a deterrent. The death penalty is a simple response to a massively complex issue and it doesn’t work. I met M and A when they were little. Young faces with their lives ahead of them.

Michaelia Cash attended Iona Presentation College in Mosman Park WA. The College has proudly flown the Indigenous flag since at least 2008. Police stations in WA fly the flag too . Cash needs to tell West Australians how she feels about the flag !

You are up to date.
