Everyone’s seen the Sketchpad demo. Few understand how it actually works. I reimplemented Sketchpad from scratch, and I’m making short videos that recreate Sutherland’s demos and explain how they work. The first 8 are up — from drawing a line to the famous rivet. Link below 👇

I have a home lab that works like this, and I've been wanting to make it easier to share parts of it. It looks like @imbue-ai.bsky.social has designed something that could be... your next best group chat.

I asked my homelab (tinkering environment) to write scripts against its own session logs, and ended up with a report of costs and value: $6 for 40 hours of entertainment over 10 projects in a month.

I found a "mix zip" of mp3s that has been floating around hard drives for 16 years. The same mix was on my Spotify from that era, 2/20 of the tracks are not there now. The zip file works perfectly, but 10% of the Spotify version has rotted away. "Your will own nothing and be happy" indeed.

Idea for a home music server that just buys new mp3s that you listen to. I imagine it could be cheaper than family Spotify on balance after a little while, and get more money to artists.

I can't look away from these lost interfaces. I want to document them carefully and return them to the commons before they disappear: to empower artists, preserve public knowledge, and keep capable hardware out of landfills.

Render inspiration Aalto Maljakko. Cuttle can export 3D now, so here's the same curve extruded and brought into #Blender for material, lights, and animation. There's a disconnect though... I'd like to figure out how Cuttle's parameters could also be animated in Blender. #CuttleXYZ

I wanted to render this to try Blender Cycles on the 2025 GPU that I put into a friend's retired 2020 PC. What else is fun with excess local compute these days?

Click around there. 😎 I made one of the "T" sketches, a port of my animated Sierpiński curve. Impressed with the other sketches, music, and background effects. Good company.

Ink & Switch is ten years old this month! We made you a card to celebrate. inkandswitch.com

Cooking vid algo showed me someone making garlic powder... by toasting and grinding the skins. I know better than to reply. But it's such a weirdly specific confident wrongness, and doesn't seem to be intentional ragebait.

Hey, do you know string instrument teachers or have a beginner student at home? What if the material given to beginner music students for home practice were something that facilitates intuition and gives immediate feedback instead of being just ink on paper? #violin #viola #musiced #musicteaching

Before and after. By connecting the touching corners before rounding, you end up with fewer separate bits, which translates to fewer tool jumps with various CNC processes. It's possible I've been going down the rabbit-hole a bit on this! Shipping soon!

Maybe it's cheating to animate an optical illusion like this. I like the Cuttle version, to dial in the parameters and find where the illusion is lost or found.
