Poetry proves again and again that any single overall theory of anything doesn't work. Poetry is always the cat concert under the window of the room in which the official version of reality is being written. -- Charles Simic

“Everything worth doing takes time. You have to write a hundred bad songs before you write one good one. And you have to sacrifice a lot of things that you might not be prepared for. Like it or not, you are in this alone and have to follow your own star.” — Bob Dylan

I have come to the conclusion, that the real existential crisis we face is not that we have taught machines to think like humans (we haven't), but that we have taught humans to think like machines.

Thirty-three years ago tonight, I arrived in Seattle, fresh off a bout of homelessness and traveling the West Coast with friends. My first night here was in the Green Tortoise Hostel (in Queen Anne). I went the next day to live with a friend at the swanky Kahala Apts in Capitol Hill.

I arrived on the Coast Starlight train, sick as a dog from weeks on the road. After getting settled in Seattle, I'd tell people I thought the train must have crashed and I'd died and gone to heaven.

"The kindness of one human being to another in times of mass hatred and violence deserves more respect than the preaching of all the churches since the beginning of time." - Charles Simic

Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate the last day of this year's Bicycle Weekends today! It was a beautiful day for a ride along the lake, and a bittersweet end to the season.

So sad to see this wonderful magazine go!

I don't think it was intentional, it just happened to be on the playlist, but they were playing Dolly's version of Neil's After the Goldrush at the local Co-op, and it almost made me cry.
