April 1 upload: “It's the rare outlet of this establishment that actually meshes with the rest of the street frontage, ironic since we're like one block from the under-construction White House ballroom, which by all accounts actually looks more like a Cheesecake Factory than this restaurant does”

lol forgot I even did this interview

Alex Schieferdecker@alexschief.bsky.social

The Strib got ahold of @nerd4cities.bsky.social to ask about his recent Minneapolis city visit and impressions of our expanding network of bike infrastructure. Good interview, even better headline (I might be biased): www.startribune.com/ray-delahant...

The only podcast that asks the burning question: what sparks joy

Still trying to understand how Napster got shut down, but Anthropic is going public and still hasn’t paid us authors yet after stealing our work.

Worked with City of Vancouver on several projects in the last 12 years or so. Amazing staff who are always out just a bit ahead of a council that itself just keeps trending more and more progressive. (I’m here at the same conference too!) Will have to come up and do a video at some point

Jennifer@jenwith1n.bsky.social

Vancouver, WA did the biggest upzone / deregulation possibly in the entire nation and not enough people are talking about it. And this all came from City staff - they didn’t have community advocates demanding this for years!

Someone should start studying the use of AI-generated images for NIMBY causes. It’s honestly fascinating. It also shows most of these folks are clueless- the guy in the green shirt has three arms, for example

I am in his neighborhood and this dude is a nut. Everyone makes fun of his terrible AI memes. This is just a sample.

We loved hosting @nerd4cities.bsky.social in Austin! Check out this great CityNerd video on Austin that came out of that trip:

New on Nebula: Field notes from a city that, refreshingly, takes its housing supply crisis seriously. Also, I like grackles nebula.tv/videos/cityn...

Cruise line video was removed by YouTube over truly the dumbest copyright strike. Obviously fighting it, it’ll be back up in a few weeks like nothing happened. This is not an ad for Nebula, but it is still available on Nebula: nebula.tv/videos/linds...

Jose Andres is the absolute GOAT. turbolib who has brought meals to disaster zones after the Haiti earthquake & to war-stricken families in Ukraine and Gaza and now he’s YIMBYposting in the face of Spain’s severe housing shortage

This one’s coming up in a couple days — still spots available (it’s a pretty big venue!), but not many. To this day I’ve made more content in Vegas than any other city, and I can’t wait to talk about all of it

Ray Delahanty | CityNerd@nerd4cities.bsky.social

Gonna be in Vegas the weekend of October 3? Come out to UNLV, I’ll be doing an event with very cool Clark County commission candidate Minja Yan. Minja is amazing, her transit and smart growth vision are such a breath of fresh air in Vegas. See you there! friends.voteminja.com/vegas-2046-a...

This event was too fun, let’s do it again soon Philly

On Monday night, more than 500 of you joined us for the urbanist event of the season: CityNerd Live in Philly: The City’s Scorecard. We hosted @nerd4cities.bsky.social Ray Delahanty for a live show discussing what Philly gets right and wrong when it comes to transit, walkability, and affordability.

New for the Nebulized: it was fun doing a dry run of this one live in Seattle last week — probably helped me dial in the themes and the storyline a bit too. Also, stop telling me to go to the transit-oriented blueberry farm, it’s never happening nebula.tv/videos/cityn...

nebula.tvCityNerd — Seattle’s LINK Is That Good (We Just Need More)2026 has been a year of record-setting performances for Seattle's Link light rail, with new suburban connections and big network effects. But can Puget Sound keep the transit momentum going?

I didn’t even include my hyperloop video in this (maybe I should’ve). Also, Adam Something’s videos on this topic are the gold standard

Mike Hicks@mulad.bsky.social

I assume he had it in the queue for a while, but Ray Delahanty @nerd4cities.bsky.social has just put up a compendium of his pieces on the Las Vegas Loop. All of the companies aiming to do faster Hyperloops have gone bankrupt, as far as I know youtu.be/poIorLUDN0I

It’s all relative. When someone posted this screenshot from my Edmonton video on LinkedIn, the CEO of some parking lobbyist organization ‘splained to me that the reason Edmonton has *checks notes* like 40x the ridership of OKC is because Edmonton is actually a dense metropolis, you see

Oh The Urbanity!@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social

Calgary and Edmonton are just too spread out for public transit? Edmonton pioneered modern LRT in North America. Calgary’s C-Train was the highest ridership LRT among all cities in the US and Canada for 2025, beating out systems in much bigger cities.

I don’t know why that post attracted so many weirdos, but this reply was also Louvre of LinkedIn-worthy. I’d just submit that, if you’re putting the word “civilized” in scare quotes, it’s time to rethink your entire values system

I’ve owned a whole bunch of different bikes in my life, I ride every day to lots of different kinds of places, and haven’t had a bike stolen since I was 12. I’m not superstitious so this isn’t a jinx

Oh The Urbanity!@ohtheurbanity.bsky.social

What’s really harmful to cycling for transportation is how many people tell you bike theft is inevitable, never ever leave your bike outside. Turns out the right lock (for your level of bike) plus locking strategy can make theft not impossible but substantially less likely.

I’ve been slightly lucky. I once interrupted two people who were in the middle of trying to steal my bike but they were seriously incompetent. I also don’t generally ride bikes that appear worth stealing. U locks are good
