I am old enough to remember when politicians felt the need to hide behind euphemism and obfuscation. As frustrating as these obfuscations were I hope it is becoming clear to all that they were an advance, historically speaking

I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

The really big one in my mind coming up - though it's still a few years out - is when we'll be farther from the first moon landing than the moon landing was from the Wright brothers first flight.

Imagine replacing 'countries' with 'states' and consider if there's any important difference at stake.

Yes well it does require things like “empathy” and possessing a basic understanding that all of our lives are interconnected

The Shapiro campaign sent me 10 emails supposedly from Josh just on Saturday, PLUS three supposedly from Amy Acton! Absolutely insane that they think they will get any money from me with this behavior.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Great thread and conversation.

🧵 Matt Yglesias is one of the biggest reasons the Democratic Party leadership is so feckless, cowardly, and lazy. I'm not exaggerating. Yglesias is often a featured speaker at private Democratic Party events, despite almost always being wrong. Let's discuss...

Back in the 90s I argued with people over whether music created with samplers was art. Thing is, that music was still created by people, they still put lots of real work and creativity into it. It was still their expression.

As far I can tell nothing has much changed from when I visited years ago except that it has all gotten worse.

This afternoon, we toured the infrastructure of occupation in the West Bank: Settler outposts that uproot groves full of olive trees & steal Palestinian land. Gates arbitrarily closed by Israeli forces, forcing Palestinian villages to transfer construction supplies and bulk goods by hand.

A thing I think is true: there has always been child sexual assault but various facts about social norms meant that well into the early 21st century it was considered shameful to mention it or bring it up. However, this very silence led to different interpretations of what the status quo ante was...

In California we have paper ballots (and ballot marking devices for those who need them), and that's the way it should be.

Dolly Parton's sister claims voting machines in Tennessee changed her vote to the Republican candidate.

Just put together that this is a big part of why Union Pacific is rehabilitating the 'drill track' through Berkeley (which is why they cut down all those trees in Aquatic Park). 13 million tons/yr would equate to roughly 3 coal trains per day (most likely going through Berkeley not from Niles).

Haven't seen anything on Bluesky so far about reports that Alina Habba complained to Trump in the Oval Office that Ric Grenell defrauded her new foreign* billionaire husband out of his attempt to do a proper influence-buying corruption. But maybe I need better follows.

*Want to be clear that I have nothing against a billionaire being foreign (though I do rather object to anyone being a billionaire) but it's hypocritical of MAGA of course, who will sell out even white nationalists for the money. (Couldn't happen to more deserving people, but still...)

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

#physicssky Has anyone ever noticed that the conclusion of the EPR paper doesn't match their description of their criterion for reality as "not necessary, but merely sufficient"? I.e. if their criterion isn't necessary, then QM could be complete according to some other criterion for reality!

A genuine idea I've had is to found some kind of housing trust that would subsidize energy upgrades to existing rental stock without raising rents to pay for it.
