I grew up getting to see the Ray Brown Trio, once a year in Moscow, Idaho at the Min Hampton Jazz Festival. Even then I knew what I was seeing was an incredible bridge to early 20th century jazz. Ray Brown was a master of an upright base and could lead just really tight jazz trios.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek: Enterprise. Set now only 125 years in the future the show attempted an origin story to Starfleet. Like any good Star Trek, it was occasionally hit and miss, but overall did some brave connecting of dots or redefining of Star Trek lore.

🎵It's been a long road, getting from there to here. It's been a long time, but my time is finally near. And I can feel a change in the wind right now. Nothing's in my way. And they're not gonna hold me down no more.🎵

My silly love for the show extends to the fact that the character of the Starfleet Admiral who mispronounces “Klingon” is named Daniel Leonard; this is my fathers name, so I have decided my family is enshrined into Star Trek canon.

Star Trek with a theme song slaps. I continue to have a very soft spot in my truck heart for enterprise. Imagining that future but less than 150 years from now, makes a humanistic future feel close, feel possible.

I just finished the season four finale of Star Trek: Strange new worlds. I am eternally grateful for how this show respected and developed the original series female characters. Uhura got the episode she’s deserved for decades this week.

I spent much of the day up at the Sand Creek Massacre site with a group of pilgrims today. Being in that place is such a heightened experience. Prairie almost as far as the eye can see, and omnipresent wind.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

Once again it left him in darkness. His eyes seemed to be popping out of his head. He wasn't certain if this was because they were trying to see more clearly, or if they simply wanted to leave at this point.

One of my very first television memories is watching Gene Shalit on the today show in probably 1975. He cut a memorable figure and his demeanor was positive and fun. I am saddened to hear of his passing. May his memory be a blessing to his family.

Known for his puffy hair, oversized handlebar mustache and a love for puns, Gene Shalit joined Today in 1970 and became arts editor in 1973. He was a middle-of-the-road critic, known for his wit and intelligence. n.pr/3QfcpDw

This really gets at the absurdity of the Alt National Park Service as a concept. Why are park rangers taking it upon themselves to be an all-purpose news aggregator? If they're just reposting headlines, why do they need to be anonymous? Why do ANY of this?
