8/ What does this mean for you? If you’re up to date on your MMR vaccines, your risk is very low. In areas with ongoing transmission, infants as young as 6 months may be eligible for an early dose after talking with their pediatrician. Two routine doses are still needed later.

1/ If we need another sign the U.S. is going backward in health, here it is. Measles cases in the U.S. have now topped 4,500 this year, which is the highest annual case count since 1991. Cases are still climbing, so let's break down what’s happening and what comes next. 🧵

There is so obviously a million ways to use a star soccer player in your league to help all the kids improve their game. If you can't find one maybe it's because there's a giant racism bag over your head that's turning your brain into oatmeal.

Been thinking this morning about a political party which wants to allow or not allow minority members to have lives depending on which state you're in. They're not making that decision based on the number of queers in the state, but the number of bigots. Clear statement the bigots are more important

mcc@dryad.technology

I promise the Democrats that there are queers in Iowa

What I wrote about Gavin Newsom a year ago is never more applicable to several Democrats today. I foresaw this coming, and I continue to hold this true.

Do you want to create a statistical model for a predictive-text keyboard? Get a stock chatbot LLM, train it to do that. Do you believe short-chain markov models outperform LLMs, for this application? Too bad. You have to use an LLM. LLMs use more CPU and battery life, so they're automatically better

Our MAHA guy can’t tell people not to eat beef because his weird sauerkraut and beef diet wouldn’t survive. That’s why he’s giving this shitty advice.

BTW, this is one of the reasons I'm not in favor of "Gifted and Talented" tracks. I was G&T in school, National Merit and all that, but my friends were football players, theater kids, and shit-kickers. G&T isolates the geeks, and not in a good way.

... that said "not wearing shorts". We picked football players because school wouldn't expel them, unlike the rest of us. This created quite stir. By lunchtime, of course, the protesting students were pulled out of class and sent home to change. But it did make the school board agenda ...

So, storytime as promised! I went to public school in San Antonio, TX, in the 80s. Importantly, at the time, schools were NOT air-conditioned, so things were sweltering in early fall and late spring. We're talking 85+ inside the classroom ...

They *shouldn't*, should they? And yet. Gonna storytime on this as a thread later, I'll tag you?

... however, the principals of all 8 schools went to the board meeting and convinced the board that skirts were good and shorts were bad. I don't know how, except that the board was pretty absentee. Over the next 15 years, several school staff and teachers were arrested for sex with students.

... TX schools had a dress code, which required long pants; jeans or slacks were fine. What was not fine was shorts, which were prohibited. Girls were allowed and encouraged to wear skirts, and there was no enforced limit on how short those skirts could be ...

... which is not a surprise given that 100% of principals and vice-principals in the district were men. Usually former coaches. So, one particularly brutal May, we organized a protest. 12 boys, all of them on the football team, wore skirts to school. We had tshirts printed ...

So, reaction to the mRNA Flu vaccine: mild cold symptoms, full body aches, fatigue, some congestion. Very similar to the Moderna COVID vaccine; I think it's just my immune system doing its thing.

Hello claimants in the Anthropic copyright suit! The parties filed a stipulated agreement asking for an update to the website. In this stipulation, there are two important things (although there are more that might matter for individuals).

Here's a chronic AI-security-report fail: reporting vulns against obsolete patch versions. Not that humans don't do this too, but humans using AI tools do it constantly. Part of it is AI models' inability to parse or understand patch versions; remember that LLMs are bad with numbers ...

... so an agent will report a vuln against 3.5.16, when 3.6.16 is the current version and 3.5.16 has 9 patches against it since it was released. The AI just can't tell the difference between the two version numbers.

Acting as though supporting human rights is difficult and demanding it is asking for "purity" doesn't say what you think it says.

"You just want the 'perfect' candidate" is bullshit. I want a candidate who supports the bare fucking minimum - respect for the basic human rights of every person. If you can't meet that EXTREMELY low bar, that's on you for being a piece of shit. If that makes me a "purity princess," so be it.
