Eric Bauza was the People's Bugs Bunny, he fought tirelessly to get Coyote vs. Acme released, he was on the front lines of strikes supporting writers and actors, this is a huge loss

Growing up, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton (nearly always mentioned together in one breath as part of the same punchline) were more likely to be portrayed on TV as comedy caricatures than as genuine civil rights leaders. Darrell Hammond in blackface was playing Jesse Jackson on SNL *into the 2000s*.

This looks like something I would've watched at Anthrocon in like 2012, and I mean that as high praise.

'Bouchra,' Morocco’s first animated feature, premieres tonight in Toronto. A queer, deeply personal story, it was built by a tiny team across three countries with a blend of Blender hacks, grit, and intentionally blissful ignorance. www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film...

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the 7th episode of Dirty Pair, "愛こそすべて命賭けます逃避行!!" or "Love Is Everything, Betting Their Lives on Elopement", one of the most overtly trans-positive episodes of anime of its era. This was the future they predicted for us in 1985. We can still get there.

Brooke Rollins on farm laborers: "There will be no amnesty. The mass deportations continue, but in a strategic way. And we move the workforce toward automation and 100% American participation, which with 34 million able-bodied on Medicaid we should be able to do fairly quickly."

This is a map of Los Angeles. The arrow points to a red dot. That red dot (roughly) represents the protest area seen on TV. To me, the gross mischaracterization of what’s happening in Los Angeles looks like an excuse to deploy the military—to protect government assets like ICE.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

Between the fires and these protests, I hope this year teaches everyone that most of the shit talking you hear about California and more specifically, LA, comes from racists and gentrifying transplants. Most people love living here and would do anything to protect it.

Just realized that a lot of the new arrivals to Bluesky may not be aware that the site’s official mascot is my seven year-old’s drawing of “baby hamburger.”

The cool thing about the grocery store suddenly moving something to another aisle is you get to feel both: (1) Like a crazy person because the thing you're looking for is completely missing. (2) Like an idiot when you need an employee to point out the giant pile of it one row over.
