I don’t think Holmes was manipulating Fielder. I’ve met people with the same kind of aloofness / slippery grasp of reality (not to that degree though). Fascinating person, great film.

I’m sure Apple will rethink parts of MacOS when they add touch support. It won’t just be slapped on top of the existing UI. I have a hard time imagining it though, still pretty skeptical.

At graduation, my computer science professor had only one message: just because you can build it, doesn't mean you should. AI is wonderful in so many ways, but it should always sound and act like a robot. I really hope this remains an experiment that never sees the light of day.

This is the best speech model I've heard by some margin, and it is seriously dangerous. If they release it like this, people are going to be falling in love with this model, and their choice of samples does not inspire confidence that they're taking the possibility of this seriously. block.xyz/dessa

Damn, Gruber is such a good writer. Now I’m insatiably curious to see if iPadOS adopts any Duo-isms in the next year.

John Gruber@gruber.foo

It's been a lot of fun trying the Duo out for a week, but it feels like I've gotten to use an extraordinarily polished prototype -- not a finished product that I'd want to buy and carry.

This is a good thing. HomeView is like Apple Watch – good for quick interactions and glanceable info. Full-fledged apps on the watch were a mistake.

AppleInsider@appleinsider.com

For all the obvious benefits, Apple's new HomeView appears immediately and unnecessarily stunted by not allowing users to install any apps at all.

Well there it is

If Siri AI isn’t available in the EU, does that also mean Apple won’t sell its new home products there? Based on the rumors, it seems like Siri AI is going to be core to how those products work.

Apple is going to make it more challenging to enable Full Disk Access. Good! I don't think a lot of people realize this includes messages, photos, notes, browsing history, etc. It's also refreshing to see them do this quickly, outside the yearly release cycle!

I think people are overreacting, like they’re going to take away Full Disk Access entirely. My read is that they’re making a UI change to make it scarier, that’s all.

As much as I detest Meta, I have to admit they nailed it with Muse. It’s exactly what I want from personal agent. Plus look how cute he is!

Doesn’t matter though, Apple and Google are still going to sweep this category. No agent, not even Zucchini is going to be useful without the context of your entire phone.

Reddit has: - made the site slow and clunky - forced users onto the mobile app - killed third party apps - killed its RSS feeds I'm sure the old version of the site isn't long for this world either. Seriously can't wait for Bluesky communities, we need it.

Run your PDS on Cirrus, and your blog on EmDash. Great work @mk.gg, congrats on the launch!

@toni.bsky.team probably time to declare a "code red" and get Bluesky Communities launched ASAP. I'm as blue-pilled and optimistic as it gets, and I deeply respect *everyone* I worked with on the team, but even I'm getting worried about how many chances remain. Feels too slow to win at this pace 🙁

I'm going to be launching something pretty big next week, which just happens to include a new atproto AppView, labeler, blob proxy, lexicons. It will have tens of thousands of users, most of whom won't even know they're using atproto, or have even heard of it.

Super cool. And I don’t think we’ve seen Apple Sillicon optimized for AI yet.

I reviewed the M5 Ultra Mac Studio with 256 GB of RAM. It’s the dream Mac for local AI agents. And I’ve gone local-only with Hermes. My story, with LOTS of interactive charts: www.macstories.net/stories/m5-u...

Love reading about these details. This account is a good follow for anyone else into Apple / software design!

I wanted to take a closer look at the iPhone Duo's opening and closing animations, beyond just applauding how sick the effects look, and how they actually contribute to the User Experience of folding and unfolding an operating system kirby.pika.page/posts/the-ip...

It boots! And, after purging my house of USB-A a few years ago, I have no way of plugging in a keyboard and mouse. So I’m stuck watching this screensaver for now.

Remembering 9/11 On this solemn morning 25 years ago a team of us had arrived on a redeye flight in NYC for a Mac press tour. After the horrific attack we stood on the streets and cheered the first responders, paid our respects at the site (as close as allowed), and spent a week together in shock 😢

First ride. The Cybercab feels like it was stolen from a future, more advanced civilization. My legs got pretty twitchy sitting in the driver’s seat with no pedals to react to traffic! Didn’t expect that!

With the original iPhone came the innovation of iBeer. The iPhone Duo is going to have its iBeer moment, we just don’t know what it is yet.

Corrected headline: "Waymo Saves Toddler's Life" I really hope Tesla's rolls out their robotaxis slowly and cautiously like Waymo. They will inevitably face these situations. One bad mistake could sink the entire AV industry. They are such a net good for society, we can’t jeopardize that.
