The only Arabs able to vote in a free, non-violent, unrigged election outside diaspora populations are currently doing so in Israel. Hundreds of thousands of them. More Arabs should have that opportunity.

And we could be heading again to a situation where the only democratically-elected government with Islamists as a part of it is the Israeli government.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

75% of the vote in and Lula's almost certainly won with a higher % than he did in 2022

The key thing about the Brazilian election is that Brazil elects on the national level a head of state — the president — and a legislature. The president is elected to a four-year term by absolute majority vote through a two-round system. The National Congress (Congresso Nacional) has two chambers.

Okey-dokey. But your bedtime is still 9.30 on school nights.

I ain't stockpiling shit because fuck these corrupt, scaremongering cunts preparing the ground for huge increases in "defence spending", ie a financial boost to the arms trade, who evidently have the ear of key people in government, paid for by welfare cuts.

A month ago, Sir Jim Ratcliffe lectured the Prime Minister, telling him he should run Britain in the same way he runs Manchester United

Modest prediction. If there were to be another referendum on undoing all or majority parts of Brexit then the Leave elements will tear themselves to pieces. Farage will demand to lead. But he was negatively polarising and unpopular enough to be kept far at arms length in 2016.

I know a country which ethnically cleansed tens of thousands of Greek Cypriots from their homes. But they're besties with Qatar so you won't hear about that continuing source of agony on AJ.

Could you imagine AJ using this type of language for any other country...

That honour is conferred on the Turkish ethnostate - and its Ottoman predecessors - despite the Middle East being highly competitive in this field.

Progressives who admire AJ never have any idea of the extent to which they are being played by a feudal slave-state whose entire raison d'etre is to destroy the planet's climate.

Turkey, meanwhile, is probably the most genocide-prone ethnostate in the entire region. Just ask the Armenians, the Assyrians, the Kurds, the Pontics etc etc etc.

The only rebuttal to the "Hitler was leftwing" nonsense that is often trotted out by idiots is that this would have been big news to the capitalists like Thyssen and Krupp who funded him before 1933.

I bought a carving knife from Sainsbury's in 1993. Still use it every day.

What item has given you best value in terms of use? I bought a secondhand Herman-Miller Aeron chair for about £500 in ~2009. Must have used it nearly every day since. Reckon it has another fifteen years in it.

Farage says he's reactivating the "Leave" campaign. The painful truth is that all the skilled, effective people that actually won that campaign will have nothing to do with him. Or he will have nothing to do with them. Leave kept him at arm's length because he was a liability to them.

Of course, Dominic might be tempted back. But is a busted flush these days. Too busy carrying water for Putin or whichever techbros are currently beguiled by him.

Mark Carney on Elon Musk crippling Ukraine’s Starlink: “I search for the right adjective to describe whoever took this decision… against a country that is literally fighting for the lives of its citizens against naked aggression."

Trumpism brought in its wake many pale imitators who kidded themselves that having made money in other areas, they would be good at politics. They're not. None of them. Similar here. Tice, Lowe and Yusuf are lousy at politics. All they have done is ridden Farage's coattails.

🤦 U-ground cables bc they can't be air cooled for free like OHL have to be wider spaced. To match a 400kV double circuit OHL you'd be looking at a dozen cables across 4 trenches and 200+ft wide disturbance zone!

Rejoin, huh?

In the long term this is way more destructive than Jackdaw, because it actively slows down electrification and weaning households off residual LNG consumption.

This would hit harder if The Guardian Education Editor ever got any good stories, tbh.
