I'm excited to share the announcement for my next picture book: SNOW DAY WITH DADDY will be published Winter 2028 from Christy Ottaviano Books / @littlebrownyr.bsky.social Inspired by my dad and snowy winters growing up in New England. A big thank you to my agent @mccarthylit.com ❄️ #kidlit

Canadian author and illustrator friends! If you have any spare, new copies of your books that you would like to donate to two schools that have lost their entire libraries, please send me a message!

Pebble Spirit(s) 🪨 I started sketching out different types of designs for a pebble guy and decided I'd just keep them all 🤷‍♀️ Which one is your favorite? #Kawafitober26

Monday #kidlit check-in: this week I'm doing more book edits, getting back to writing/revising an early reader, and lots of marketing catch-up. How about you?

Friday #kidlit recap: Cover art done, worked on book art edits, reviewed my next project AND took an afternoon with my sketchbook at a coffee shop. How about you?

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

Happy to share that junior graphic novel ONCE UPON A TAIL: FRIENDS FOREVERMORE (book 2) has been chosen as a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection for Spring 2027! Book coming March 30, 2027! #kidlit #comics #GN

Drop some BIKES From my knight on bikes comic I'm working on in my spare time.

This Jalen Hurts story is increasingly horrifying as someone who just had a bilateral PE. Absolute malpractice, everyone involved in his 'care'.

Monday #kidlit check-in: I'm working on cover art for my next picture book this week, then digging into my next book project (PLUS leaving time for my sketchbook, I swear!!!) How about you?

Please respond + share as appropriate. Deadline is Saturday!

I have an overwhelming fear that chemo & meds have fried my brain & my new book won’t be as good as my other murder mysteries. That’s why this first review for Murder at the Otter Cove Market means so much. I am profoundly grateful for those who give reassurance when I need it most. 🇨🇦📚♥️ #fuckcancer

A rare treat last night to have a full #kidlit picture book panel talk in Portland, Maine. Author/Illustrator Tom Booth, agent Rick Richter, AD Maria Middleton, and Editor Susan Van Metre in conversation. Also, Happy Book Birthday to Tom’s THE WAND IN THE WOODS (Candlewick).

Hello #PortfolioDay - I'm Gina Perry, a New Hampshire children's book illustrator and author. Looking for new projects in 2027. More at: ginaperry.com Rep'd by Sean McCarthy Lit. #kidlit

Monday #kidlit check-in: I'm taking a half-day today, but the rest of my week is polishing up final book art, hopefully getting approval to start the cover, getting my newsletter out, and MAYBE some sketchbook time. How about you?

I just got my first 'fake editor' scam email. Is there somewhere we should be reporting who is being impersonated so they are aware? I don't want to shout it out here. #kidlit

Friday #kidlit recap: I did not, in fact, get to my newsletter or my long-neglected sketchbook. I did, however, hustle on final book art - getting really close to done. How about you?

More biro drawings on receipts. I like to save up the end rolls of receipts to draw on instead of having them go to waste. I enjoy the challenge of fitting an image to a small, specific space.

Childhood flashback, if you grew up near Boston in the 80s. I don't remember him being so quiet, but it sort of makes him funnier?

Holy Jesus God, if you have 4+ years experience as a professional full-time book designer (preferably in children's) and want full-time work, get in touch! We're trying to hire someone!

Look alive artists! The next #PortfolioDay is in one week on Tuesday, October 13th. Visit portfolioday.art for more info!

Close to freezing temps this morning while walking the dog BUT it was a chocolate morning (I live close enough to a chocolate factory that sometimes it smells of it outside)

Loved Loobylu!

This Saturday, Renee Kurilla and I will be joining @mcusolito.bsky.social at the The Silver Unicorn Bookstore for a #kidlit #storytime! See you there!!! #booksky #edusky #skybrarian

More stressful than summer camp signup - getting concert tickets to your teen's favorite bands (Fontaines D.C). I think I finally did this one without messing anything up!

Tea and cookie time. If you've got 'em!

PENGUINS DON'T WEAR PANTS by @abicushman.com is so funny. Kids will be rolling at all of the outrageous bits Abi has so cleverly worked into the text and illustrations, including all of her delightful penguin illustrations. I loved this one!

Monday #kidlit check-in: I'm still focused on final book art, but I also need to put together my newsletter, and hopefully save a crumb of time for my neglected sketchbook. How about you?

Friday #kidlit recap: I lost a lot of work time this week to ongoing health stuff, and recovery from a very fun but exhausting concert night. Might have a working Sunday ahead of me. And you?

Daily Hank: Post Dinner Concert Edition #pug (Hank goes out of his way to do this right next to me)
