NEW: Remedy's latest game, Control Resonant, is filled with art galleries. The galleries are filled with real art When I began talking to Remedy about it, I was delighted to discover who the artists are: many are the game developers' parents My story... www.gamefile.news/p/control-re...

Parents need to start parenting and checking ratings on movies way before buying a ticket. Don’t blame producers and animators because you didn’t do research.😒

Something I've been doing lately to remember what pitch, yaw and roll are in 3D: Pitch: You can raise pitch in music, so it's vertical Yaw: Sounds like Link's yell when he does a spin attack, which is horizontal Roll: Star Fox barrel roll

One important piece of context that many people might not realize: Shutting down a game studio is expensive. Shutting down a French game studio — thanks to labor laws requiring an extended severance period — is VERY expensive. Xbox doesn't want to take on those costs.

graystripe2000.bsky.social reposted

Let me share some positive news for a change: Despite all the gloomy headlines today, my understanding is that there are multiple paths actively being explored that would save Arkane Lyon. Anything can happen during negotiations, but at this point I'd be surprised if the studio is shut down.

graystripe2000.bsky.social reposted

I feel it's important to share this again. The internet is so hostile toward creators nowadays. I've seen people have their work stolen, and no longer feel comfortable sharing their creations. We can do better. Let's be supportive to the people that make this a better place! 💞

You may not have the means to buy them games and that’s more understandable then ever but you can still support them devs by getting them more eyes and highlighting cool new games. It’s a button press or a QRT that helps say you think something looks rad. And we all got that ability to support them.

The industry is fucked but some are still at it and what’s the point unless we all support who’s left the best we can even in just the simple act of sharing and highlighting their efforts. Just actively engage and share them devs that’s all you need to do as basic start.

graystripe2000.bsky.social reposted

When you see devs posting their games you need to also share some of them posts. The industry is not good but some are still working and making but they need an audience and they only get that if you help share them games. Discovery is harder but you can help by simply pointing to interesting games.

graystripe2000.bsky.social reposted

on this point in particular: egs sales are so bad it's common for devs to share and compare out of disbelief, and often what you find is quite popular games are selling only in the double or triple digits of copies last i checked, my game had sold (drum roll please) five

Art reference of King Spyro made for Spyro's Kingdom for a better look. After the game became Skylanders during development, King Spyro's design would later be used for Flavius, the red dragon knight from the Dragon's Peak adventure pack level in the console versions.

So like one problem here is that SNF is basically useless to consumers on its own, so developers are going to increasingly need curators (like game journalists) to point their game out, but consumers also don’t pay attention to SNF coverage, so journalists can’t spare the time to cover any of it.

Nothing against A/I in general if done 100% or assisted and corrected by people. It's the generative a/i many use these days to steal, harass and shame, take away people's jobs and livelihoods, post broken slop and go, and other negative sides of a/i is what I disapprove.

Off the top of my head, it's like a fifth of what PS physical is doing, which itself is half of what Switch 2 version is doing. It is reeeeeally tiny numbers, tbh numbers that wouldn't typically make financial sense doing, I just wanted to do Xbox physicals lol

graystripe2000.bsky.social reposted

Yeahh, I've released one physical Xbox game recently and the sales are *wayyyy* lower than the SW2 + PS5 versions, so a complete turnaround would be really hard to nail. Their audience is just straight up not into physical anymore.

The "golden age of gaming" isn't one where the vast majority of people who love games can't afford the equipment to play them and where those who make the games get their ideas (and ability to pay rent) stolen from them.

Friendly Reminder: Indie Animation is NOT a competition. Never has and never will be No matter the skill level, production size, popularity, etc., it’s important to support them all the same People are making their own projects without any interferences. That should be celebrated!!!

I’ve been extremely skeptical of Gen AI because it’s controlled by a a very few privileged people who steal from creators and experts to sell back to anyone. At one point, nobody will be able to sell anything as AI will rip off #gamedev & any software in hours. Grim. www.404media.co/video-game-r...
