Using genomic information to improve medicine

At least this field of very squishy science is talking about being more rigorous. Notable omission -- if you have a phenotype that looks inherited, sequence the genome for a mediating genetic variant. DNA is a really good way of transmitting information between generations.

If you have questions about epigenetics - and who does not? - this excellent podcast with @wiringthebrain.bsky.social is a clear, in-depth discussion of what it is, what it is not and why so many experts groan out loud every time "epigenetics" shows up in the headlines. youtu.be/6Ugbm6HJko4

Really looking forward to participating in this workshop: Transcriptional Memory in Health and Disease (if only because they were courageous enough not to call it 'Epigenetics' in Health and Disease) Great speaker lineup, workshop format, limited to ≤50 participants www.unia.es/estudios-y-a...

The headlines are still covering the cyclosporiasis outbreak from lettuce, but let's talk about a different summer, long ago. The headlines in Bavaria would have called it "summer diarrhea" & it was killing babies. Enter our hero, Professor Theodor Escherich of the Julius Hospital, Würzburg.

The Sam Maguire cup is going to Mayo for the first time in 75 years. A huge moment for everyone from Mayo, the curse is broken, and what a performance by the Mayo team against a formidable Kerry side. Congratulations Mayo!

This is a test of knowledge of Irish current events. A cousin of my wife made a joke only some will get: "Enoch Burke will be the only person from Mayo turning up for work tomorrow"

I have to admit that I didn’t know, and I even thought the Spanish player Cucurella’s look was quite original, when it comes to his hair, but I was unaware of this: If he let his hair grow , it’s so that his autistic son can easily recognize him when he watches him on TV. Truly, this Spanish team ❤️

I should post another summary of something from my book. Any requests? I was thinking of an overview about DNA methylation, but open to other ideas. www.cshlpress.com/default.tpl?...
