Happy Birthday to #JamesBond alum John Cleese! Spy fans will know him from the Pierce Brosnan led Bond flicks THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and DIE ANOTHER DAY, but would you like to have seen him appear in more films as ‘Q’? Hear more in our deep dive: pod.fo/e/2083dd

Went round the pharmacy at lunchtime and its in the same building as the Co-Op and they've now got a massive digital ad screen inside. Also there's a new out-door launderette in the car park. Feel like I'm in a crap cyberpunk game.

As a teen I had to wait a year to read a book after seeing a review. Tried ordering it from my local bookshop and got crickets. Had to travel to a specialist science fiction book shop when it came out in paperback. Today I could start reading it instantly on kindle bsky.app/profile/mdru...

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Down town to get my flu / covid jab and it was absolute mayhem because apparently last weeks session got cancelled. Had to queue for half an hour. Nipped into the supermarket while I was down there and that was equally manic. Reminded me why I avoid town on a Sat.

I remember as a teenager rumours that the massive out of town frozen food processing factory was also used as strategic storage location in case there was some kind of major incident that interrupted supermarket deliveries. I guess we're not bothering with that now. bsky.app/profile/russ...

Britons should use money we haven't got to buy food the country doesn't grow, store it in homes that don't exist, in spare rooms that got taxed away, so we can survive when reservoirs nobody built run dry because of a climate the govt won't protect. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Think the message is “fuck you”

Currently wondering what message the UK govt thought it was sending by dressing up the Minister for Net Zero in a literal Shell logo.

David Niven nearly died from blood poisoning while making The Guns of Navarone after splitting his lip while filming in a tank full of dirty water. After a month in hospital he returned to finish the film but it caused him to relapse for another seven weeks. bsky.app/profile/amyt...

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

We nearly had Frank Sinatra as Dirty Harry but he couldn't lift the gun because he'd injured his wrist while making the Manchurian Candidate. (Clint Eastwood said it was a lame excuse) bsky.app/profile/amyt...

"Bill, we want to bring you back for a part in our new blockbuster, Raiders of the Lost Ark." "You're not gonna call me 'Porkins' again, are you?" "No." "What's my character's name?" "Major Eaton." "Fuck you, George"

Playing through the Sunn O))) rig with acoustic guitar. 😮🤯 Huge thanks to the band and their incredible crew for being so generous and welcoming! Make sure to catch one of these shows if you can, a transcendent experience like no other. 🙏♥️ 📸: Stephen O’Malley

Got click-baited into watching an AI vid on youtube and it was such a low effort - just repetitive nonsense over a random slideshow - that it actively annoyed me. More fool me for trying to support a low view vid. Slop needs more warning than a tiny AI badge once you've watching.

Silence of the Lambs - not only one of the best films ever made, but also the most underrated typography in the opening titles. So simple, but incredibly sinister. #TypeNerd

That this bot, which posts random stills and clips from the thousands of hours of VHS transfers on archive.org, landed on *this specific frame* feels like finding the monkey at the typewriter that managed to write Hamlet.
