John Minton was a gifted draughtsman and graphic artist but he is possibly best known today for his lean and angular face, familiar from his doleful self portraits and from Freud’s great likeness of his friend, the glassy eyes filled with sorrow and shifting reflections.

I'm discovering SO MANY new artists reading Taschen's 'Lucas Museum Of Narrative Art'. Sure, one can google to find their art work online, but what you need is a curator to present them in a scholarly way. This book IS that curator. My review coming soon; purchase links below 👇

When I went to the Halloween party on Friday, the bouncer waved Sloth through (Which is good because he forgot his wallet and didn't even have his ID with him) but asked to see my ID! "I'm 42!" I said indignantly. The bouncer said, "And when we stop asking, you'll be sad about it."

Pekka Holonen's 'Pioneers in Karelia,' (1900) was made during a period of promoting Finnish culture and art in response to Russian rule - it brought about a sense of national unity, emphasizing the beauty of the country and the stoicism of its people.

Just an art book PSA that Vol 4 of AKIRA ( Otomo The Complete Works edition ) will be out tomorrow, and they couldn't have picked a more iconic art for the cover. Look out for my review coming soon. Purchase link in comments section below 👇

The 2 vol deluxe edition (1996) of Hayao Miyazaki's manga masterpiece Nausicaa offers the best print quality & bigger size than the 7 vol VIZ set, which is great too. If you can read Japanese, even better ! See more in my review; link in comments section below 👇

From what I've seen in the recently released trailer, all the visdev work showcased in this book is going to melt my eyes, I just know it - 'Ray Gunn: The Art of the Brad Bird'. 🥲 Out on Dec 15, pre-orders links in comments section below 👇

Blew 2 months of my usual art book budget and ordered the giant 2 vol set 'Lucas Museum of Narrative Art'. It's a costly purchase, but Taschen books rarely disappoint and I'm confident this will be well worth the price. Look for my review next month. Purchase links below 👇

'Roofs, High Holborn.' (1937) Lily Joseph's view was painted from her studio in Bedford Row looking towards the Old Bailey. Her palette was almost exclusively of white, cobalt, rose madder and the rare orange madder. In her day, Lily was a noted Suffragette.
