hot take maybe but i am sooooo sick of people saying "mental health" when they mean "mental illness". it feels very minimizing. everyone has mental health, only some of us have mental illness. if you're talking about pathology, don't word it like it's self-care

r.i.p. rj mitte... 🕯️really tough to see more celebrities in my age group pass away recently, people who i was basically able to watch growing up at the same time as me. rj was another luminous actor, and deeply meaningful disability rep. already seeing the gossip mags spread bs about him, so unfair

reading comprehension must truly be in the gutter, what do you mean a chunk of so-called "bookish" people don't understand what incidents around the house is about? a book that hits you over the head with its themes from page one? jesus

when children experience persistent emotional neglect, they feel like they have to hide their problems from their parents. that's what other mommy represents. the Unsafe your parents don't protect you from. it's basically nightmare on elm street but in elementary school

The mayor of Saint-Denis, Bally Bagayoko, literally used himself as a human shield to protect students from police violence

The French police are so militarized they blew up a 15-yr-old’s hand and took the eye of another one. Why are grenades being used to quell student protestors who are unarmed? Now the labour unions are stepping in to protect the students

cannot, absolutely cannot, under any circumstances ever, read or hear a description of sexual violence without having body memories and it makes me feel so fucking icky and like the worst person in the world and ugh ugh ugh

saying this precisely because of how gross and evil it makes me feel. body memories can be all types of feelings, even sexual. they can come up at very inopportune moments. we don't talk about the ugly and shameful things. this is one of them.

sure, survivors are reading your attempts to shield rape apologia with restorative justice, but they're also reading you accusing everyone who brings up restorative justice as a question to grapple with of rape apologia, and contrary to popular belief we are not in fact a monolith.

i'm sure this could've been written a lot more coherently; the bottom line is, something can be the appropriate action while also being self-serving, the social media circus about it is helping no-one, and you need to choose your words more carefully when making generalizations about survivors

also idk, hot take maybe but i don't think everyone needs to say something and/or signal boost everything everyone else is saying. like who exactly is benefitting from this absolute barrage of triggering content? are we finding any new solutions? it becomes a form of self harm at some point

it pisses me off that you can't point this out without people immediately accusing you of defending someone; it has to be possible to point to how selfish and self-righteous this process is without twisting the meaning of those words. there's a difference between consequences and spectacle.

like sorry but none of you are doing a good job of centering and protecting victims, including those of you who were victims yourself. you're having a terribly hard time to consider survivor experiences & needs that differ from your own. as a result you say stuff that hurts other survivors.

but it already happened. it already happened, the damage was done, and now we're debating her violation online and more damage is being done. whatever consequences follow, the damage is done, there's no undoing it or making it right, that's my point. none of us are doing anything for her.

we always do this. we try someone in the court of public opinion, and then we feel like we achieved something, but the only thing we achieved was peace of mind for *us*. the chance to virtue signal, to feel morally superior, and to put this behind us. we have to be able to recognize that.

and i'm trying to be mindful that other people's experiences aren't the same, for example i don't know what it's like to be able to avoid the perpetrator, so i'm trying to imagine what it might feel like to encounter him years later online. that's kinda where my head's at.

like i don't feel comfortable speculating about whether or not amends and changes happened, but i think it speaks to a certain callousness to pursue even niche internet stardom with the knowledge that this might expose you to your victim, worst of all fully displaying your name and face

and that's true for all of us and i wish we could be honest about this. none of us are centering the victim because the victim is unknown. we are applying our own moral frameworks and projecting our own experiences onto this, and calling each other out for it as if we're not all doing the same thing

like my bias absolutely comes from the facts that 1. i was a child, 2. i actually have to see and be friendly with the perpetrator constantly, 3. i do unfortunately give a shit about his wellbeing, and 4. it's this unspoken thing between us. so all i can imagine is what *i* would want.

because again, i agree that deplatforming is an appropriate step, but some of you really act like that is somehow vindicating the victim when it doesn't erase that shit from her mind, only from yours. you get to move on and forget him, she doesn't.

we don't know what she wants or how she feels, we don't know if she feels like she got what she needed to heal, we don't know if this becoming public helped or hurt her, we can definitionally not do right by her. so this becomes about us and our ideas of justice.

(side note, it is not actually at all common to disclose this in a general working environment, most places do not have a sex offender registry, and if there's nothing on your police record, a normal job would not likely bring this up in a background check. that's just common for the united states.)

the whole damn fucking problem is that a person who committed this type of crime should've never ever pursued a public-facing job, it was both stupid and insensitive towards the victim who might encounter his work, but we can't go back in time, so there are no easy solutions

restorative justice 100% is supposed to be victim-focused (and btw i think it's weird to act as if it only applies to the actual justice system and not society at large but whatever), so the question of what should be done when the victim is unknown is not an easy one, stop pretending it is!

fuck, if my rape was topic du jour on social media, i mean i would kill myself, but in the meantime i wouldn't appreciate people putting punitive words in my mouth or centering their own perceived violation bc my rapist didn't disclose my rape (a story he doesn't get to tell without my permission)

i actually do very deeply care about what rehabilitation means and can even look like in a public-facing job, i do believe in deplatforming generally, but what i don't actually jive with at all is all of you pretending like you know what the completely uninvolved victim really wants.

other day i was at david lynchs grave just having a moment of thought and admiration and lookin down at all the flowers, and coffee cups, and two cookies and a coke, and wow it just hits you like a thousand suns that art is immortal. creation is too radiant to contain in a body. we trot across time

greatly enjoy being unable to be on social media because absolutely everything about the jacob geller case and the way it is spoken about is triggering. i'm currently undergoing emdr and i don't wanna live through those feelings in my off time. avoiding it would mean unfollowing 70% of my TL
