It's a game to them. They steal until you get upset and then offer you back half of what they've stolen. Without interest.

It’s interesting that they can always find the money when necessary. We just have to make it necessary

Bad + Bitchy Podcast@badandbitchy.com

Never let them tell you how to protest or that you shouldn’t protest. Never let them confuse protests and parades

Girl bye. That’s what Apple devices are for. Do it’s ok that he violates others’ privacy for you. In the time of “find my”. This odd some obscenely selfish shit

The wife of a former police officer who says he was fired for using Flock has come forward to defend him. Mariam Dula says her husband, Randy Dula, used Flock to find her as she often suffered from diabetic emergencies. It’s a crime in Georgia to use Flock outside of law enforcement purposes.

Was never a fan. I always thought he was performative

There is a major Twitter beef between French and Japanese Twitter and I have never felt so bad for Japanese racists in my life the way the French are carving them up like a Sunday roast. Please note that Japanese ”criticism” was steeped in racism

I want to let ppl know that there are economists trained in economic theory that can explain how the economy works and provide great insights into economic thinking that are anti-imperialist, socialist, anti-fascist. And they studied from the same textbooks neoclassical economists use

Seth Klein@sethdklein.bsky.social

Highly recommend this @broadbent.bsky.social hosted dialogue: @avilewis.ca interviewing economist @isabellamweber.bsky.social about her new book on Anti-Fascist Economics. A very rich conversation: perspectivesjournal.ca/anti-fascist...

We haven’t come to terms with how much the pandemic broke societies apart

Is someone writing a book on why people vote fascists back in even after they do all their fascism. Inshallah Brazil makes another choice but the fact that it’s so close is terrifying (speaking from within a trump II America)

But when I opened the first link, what AI concluded as verifiable points originating from that link were not the actual points the link was making. That’s because I opened the link to verify the information Google’s AI concluded as a summary drawn from that link

Suffice it to say the points that Google AI returned did not reflect what was actually in the source document, so I had to correct AI. Be careful when using these tools because you have to verify their answers

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

The province of Alberta put immigrants and racialized people living in Alberta at risk for violence and harassment with this vote. It showed that this is acceptable to treat immigrants/racialized ppl as less-than. This will have major implication including the creation of a permanent underclass

Senator Paula Simons 🇨🇦@senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social

The province, pivoting from the referendum results, has now chosen this moment to re-up its campaign, banning rainbow Pride flags, Treaty Flags and the flag of the Metis Nation, from Alberta's schools. I hope Albertans will not forget the lessons of the last few months too soon.

Excuse me? Eby’s campaign fail is cos he’s too smart and we’re too thick to understand legislative dysfunction? That’s some very “my biggest flaw is that I’m a perfectionist” energy, I hate it.

It’s hitting me hard

Avi Lewis@avilewis.ca

I’m hearing from friends in Alberta that today is actually hitting folks pretty hard. Not the vote to remain, which was a relief, but the other 9 questions.

Read this story. Danielle Smith's UCP scapegoated immigrants for the healthcare mess. Emergency room doctor Warren Thirsk tells the truth about what the UCP have done to our healthcare system.

New from me: A doctor testifying at an inquiry into the death of a man in an Edmonton emergency room says stories like Prashant Sreekumar’s are more common than the public is aware of amid a rolling “disaster” in emergency medicine. edmontonjournal.com/news/local-n...

Good point

The referendum gave her a whole new list of immigration and constitutional grievances to hold onto forever. She doesn’t need separatists anymore.

To add to this, the US Civil Rights movement included non-violent protest, legal activism, and militant organizations. Mandela was a leader in the armed wing of the ANC, which was named, Umkhonto We Sizwe, or "spear of the nation." It was explicitly militant.

Erica Ifill@wickdchiq.bsky.social

The ANC (and Mandela) were very violent and would not have gotten to where they were without it. The Good Friday agreement came about due to violence. There is no meaningful change that occurs without it throughout history. The violence of protestors is a direct response to the violence of the state

I’d add: “We didn’t know you needed MORE votes than the other side. Like, more than all of theirs? That’s a lot!” “We thought you meant NEXT October” “Separate from Canada? We meant separate with Canada?” “C’mon baby take us back. You know we love ya” “We lost it in the lights”

Slavery, not so long ago. These codes are still in full effect in society and form the basis of racism against Blk ppl

The New York Times@nytimes.com

More than 175 years after slavery was abolished in France, the country’s lawmakers voted on Tuesday to strike out the government regulations overseeing the practice that had remained in the French legal code.
