AFC Wimbledon is planning to sell 90% of its "economic rights" to Dr Omar Mir, Baron of Thorntoun, who runs the European arm of G42, the UAE's AI spytech firm, with Marty Edelman, a long-time Man City board member. He bought the barony and we can't find his PhD. josimarfootball.com/2026/10/28/t...

Unintended consequence of deleting my Twitter: Muck Rack linking to my old handle, now being used by a porn bot, and having no way to remove it (yes I have messaged them, no they haven't responded).

I think I admire Kane for broadly the same reasons I admire Joe Root: no ego, no bullshit, just a pure love of the game, deep commitment to constant technical improvement and representing the country the right way. We will miss them both so much when they're gone.

A lot of sneering in the replies here. But the 78% will presumably include lots of people who value their local high street in theory, but lack good retail options in practice.

James Ball@jamesrball.com

The British syndrome, summarised: 78% of us say our high streets are important to us. But only 28% of us actually use their local high street even once a week – and only 53% of people said they used theirs *once a month*. We won't use it, and we won't lose it.

The comedian Tom Allen has a fun line related to this: "podcasts, or as we used to call them, Radio 4."

Duncan Weldon@duncanweldon.bsky.social

Kinda fascinated by this sort of thing. Like the full all-star cast Harry Potter audible books, which I presume did well? Are we re-inventing the radio play?

'Picky bits' is not like the others on the list though. If you hate it you need to come up with a better name for the stuff you buy from that very specific section of M&S.

“If the wife is fit, you must acquit”

Ben@cinemashoebox.bsky.social

RIP Jeffrey Archer, not a day goes by when I don't think about the judge in his 1987 libel case (which Archer "won" by doing a bunch of perjury) summing up for the jury by going "would a guilty man have such a hot wife". one of the most insane legal moments of all time

Yep, this has been a glaring flaw from the start, but the tech industry appears to blithely assume there will always be Content because there has always been Content in the past.

jon christian@jonchristian.net

been thinking about this a lot lately -- AI seems like a tech that inherently creates economic "doom loops" that extract value from original creative work while destroying the financial incentives to produce more of it ruining culture while making itself worse futurism.com/artificial-i...

It can't just be one relegation. They'll come straight back after having a jolly old time winning the Championship. Send them to League 2.

Gareth Davies@garethtbij.bsky.social

This is the biggest scandal in PL history. Nothing else comes close. The integrity of almost a decade of football (and arguably every year since) is shattered. Nothing should be off the table in terms of repercussions, and that's before we get to the clubs (and players?) who should sue

I’ve seen 64 of the NYT’s best 100 TV shows of the 21st century. And don’t really disagree with the inclusion of any of those. That’s a good hit rate.

Reminder: Football supporters owe their clubs protective scrutiny, not blind backing for the wrongdoing of owners who wouldn't drag them out of a burning building.

Lovely stuff. Send them to League 2.

I saw the Guehi one yesterday and it just made me feel extremely awkward. Practically shouted 'Just leave him alone, let him get on!' at the TV.

The format produces rushed questions and clipped responses from players who need to be in the dressing room. Is it worth it? www.nytimes.com/athletic/759...

Once again I fail to see how this is much better than having a regular-sized phone and an iPad. In what scenarios do you actually want the big screen where an iPad couldn’t do the job? Also it’s two grand.

GW3 #FPL Deadline Tips 👇 1. It’s team dependent but generally free hit is better than wildcard this week 2. Haaland is, of course, the best captain option this week and if you’re not using another chip then I would TC him 3. Don’t sell Mbeumo to a City mid unless you’re using your WC next week

£218 a month for a Virgin Active. Jesus Christ.

Alex Selby-Boothroyd@alexselbyb.bsky.social

Virgin Active thinks it's increasing its price from a ridiculous £120 a month to a laughable £218, but it's really just reduced the amount I pay by exactly £120 a month

My local absolutely nails community: popular quiz, cheap fish and chips for pensioners on a Thursday, meat raffle, Christmas Day opening. Just need to find the right pub.

Will Cooling@willcooling.bsky.social

Maybe its me but I've gotta be honest, I don't see the "builds community" argument for pubs. I've pretty much always gone in with my friends or family, and left with those same people. And it always sure seems like everyone else is doing the same thing too.

Mad that Ray-Ban have designed these to look basically indistinguishable from their most well-known sunglasses. Anyone wearing Wayfarers now looks like a possible wrong'un.

Dmitry Grozoubinski@explaintrade.com

I was at an opticians yesterday and they were selling the Ray-Ban Pervert Glasses. I'd never gotten a close look before. They are virtually visually indistinguishable from any other pair of sunglasses unless you REALLY know what to look for. Ban them immediately, what the fuck?

First thought: I'm not sure this is how people want to consume news. Second thought: it's just a newsletter, a 'for you' tab and a comment section with a chatbot attached.

The New York Post is launching an AI chatbot called Hamilton (named after its founder) initially on its app. The new AI features also include personalised news briefing Post Express, recommendation engine Picked For You and analysis discovery tool Post Voices www.axios.com/2026/08/11/n...

My favourite example of this was some American actor getting grief for using it and then pointing out that the literal TV show he was on at the time was called Soccer AM.

My most luddite opinion is that going to a rental shop, browsing films on VHS/DVD, getting one and then watching at home with a takeaway was one of life's great pleasures. And going out and renting the film was somehow integral to that. The effort and commitment made it more of a thing.

Janel Comeau 🍁@verybadllama.bsky.social

me: hey do you have this movie I want to watch? Disney: no Netflix: not anymore Apple: ew no CBC Gem: yes and it’s free Prime: maybe I do, maybe I don’t. Maybe it costs $5 for no reason, even though you already pay for this. Maybe you should fuck off into the sun.

Think this stuff misses the point. Until you can open Bluesky to reliably find out what’s going on in the football, it won’t be mainstream.

Paul Bernal@paulbernal.bsky.social

The new CEO of Bluesky wants to change Bluesky from being a leftist bubble. The thing is, there’s nothing wrong with being a leftist bubble: the idea that everything has to be all-encompassing and suitable for everyone is a trap. 🧵 1/4
