GenAI is working hard to ensure that no one will want to pay me to write code or make designs. GenAI wants no one to read the stories I might write, listen to the music I make, or play the games I want to create. It is trying to replace every skill or joy I have. What even is FUCKING left.

The prosecution rests. The prosecution is very eepy. The prosecution requests your honour read a bedtime story. The prosecution go ni ni.

I still, to this day, am vaguely uncomfortable around mirrors because of the short this is from.

Sleepy Hollow Reviews 🎃🐎@sleepingvillage.bsky.social

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

This is a short simply called "Mirror" from NZ children's horror anthology series "Freaky". As an adult it's incredibly crude and cheap. It's very fairy tale in structure and consequences, but as a kid, the visual of being trapped with only an endless void waiting... 🫣 archive.org/details/frea...

archive.orgFreaky (2003 New Zealand Television Series)Freaky (2003) is a horror/science-fiction children's anthology series originally produced by Avalon Productions for TVNZ, which aired on TV2 (now TVNZ 2). It also aired on the ABC and ABC3 in Australi...

I need more people to watch this show, if for no other reason than to experience the tonal dissonance of a kid-friendly anthology show, starring mainly kids, but where most of the endings are usually a divine punishment or death.

Had to tab away from a fic for starting a paragraph with "As context," and causing me to recoil at the brazen levels of telling instead of showing. By the time I had tabbed back, I had forgotten what I had read, and got flashbanged a second time.

The Greens have been doing these awful emails for years. Even when they don't come off as begging or preying on shame/guilt, they're still delivering their messages poorly. Which is a strong contrast to how they're playing the news. They're doing good there! But the fundraising side... oof.

So much noise is made about whether this method works better than other methods, or whether other methods can hit the same targets. To be totally honest, I think it's just fundamentally wrong for a left, ostensibly socially responsible party, to be using tactics that can be so easily predatory.

Dillon Pentz@hatetosayit.com

And even if accounting for that, if they're still only testing for fundraising revenue, then they're disregarding the morale effects, the pipeline to gaining new volunteers, and just generally what looks and aligns best politically/philosophically for a green movement.

oh so the answer to my question from 2025 is "VERY intentional" this should be setting off alarm bells for everyone, frankly

If this year's NZ election cycle has taught me anything, it's that the people in Labour you would expect to know better, either A: don't actually know better, B: are vulnerable to capture, or C: aren't working in your interests. Honestly, I'm not sure which one is the worst.

"I should make this character say something like X. Slight twist on an ordinary saying, and it feels in character. I like it!" Look over the rest of the script to edit it. Character says the exact same thing a couple pages later. Folks, this may come as a shock, but I may in fact be predictable.

@fadeinpro.com Is there a way (or plans for a way) to write markdown (or other shorthand), and have Fade In apply it? I usually find that easier than selecting text and hitting shortcuts, or having to change formatting in advance. Though maybe I also shouldn't be using italics in a script so much.

I'm writing my game script in Australian English, but I still use the American terms for things to help disambiguate, and sometimes I just completely forget regular ass words, or forgetting that a word is a regionalism.

Me, forgetting the word 'flashlight' exists: "Hm, how do I make it clear that when this character say torch, I mean the electric kind.... Electric torch? Nah..."

Writing a game script, and writing the words "The player takes control." can either be entirely mundane or go hard depending on how you read it.

I love forgetting the name of something, going to search for it, and finally remembering what the name is right after I hit enter. Especially funny when the results of the search are completely not the thing I was looking for.

I'm sorry to all the Chris's I know, but the NZ election cycle this year has made me increasingly sick of hearing that name. It's not you, it's the fault of a bunch of fuckwits.

I'm writing the script for a smaller game concept I'm working on, and I find myself pulling back just barely before reaching the "I know writers who use subtext, and they're all cowards" line.

look its simple: if roger rabbit is exonerated the toons gain control of the acme corporation leading to "coyote vs acme". if roger rabbit is convicted, humans retain control as seen in "looney tunes: back in action". if marvin acme is never killed then chip and dale rescue rangers (2022) happens

My tired-ass brain invented a shitpost template while I was still waking up, but can't do anything with it, 'cause the original ur-post is not one I could pull off. Brain is such a fake poster, smh.

It feels incredibly serendipitous to start committing more to a project idea, and then stumble on the absolute *perfect* music to match that project's vibe and theme.

I know this is an unrelated point, but it continues to be frustrating seeing so much of the money spent by the Greens going to Meta. It makes the endless donation request emails even more grating, because so much of it ends up being spent directly on Facebook and Instagram ads.

Remember how i said I was seeing endless National Party ads? Turns out it was not just a vibe. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

This is my semi-periodic reminder to international friends and colleagues that I come from a fake country.

Hi international friendos, to help you understand what NZ bluesky is talking about, here is a summary: While Prime Minister Chris has survived leadership challenges from MP Chris (today) and MP Chris (recently), this instability bodes ill for election chances against Former Prime Minister Chris
