Microsoft has gone full obnoxious with "Upgrade your plan" in Office. The button doesn't go away and will drown out everything else in Word, including the name of the file you're editing. If you needed evidence MSFT is panicked over retail Copilot sales, this is pretty compelling evidence.

any Emacs org-mode users who can recommend a guide or post on how to start? I'm interested in checking it out

tried to rewrite my Hyprland config in Lua. It is exhausting and at first glace not an big improvement in terms of readability and usability for me.

using Ivanti VPN with 2FA on Linux is such a pain. Since the last update the AUR package isn't working for me anymore and on Fedora there are dependencies that do not even exist anymore (webkit2gtk3). Sadly there is no alternative at work in sight yet

I really wish for universities ditching Microsoft for open source alternatives. Problem remains, that Microsoft makes the licenses for student accounts provided by the universities free. Therefore it is much cheaper to stay with Microsoft and an out-of-the-box working system like M365

Does it seem unlikely that an authoritarian US government uses the Cloud Act to get research data from foreign universities to take advantage of?

if I see one more article that is obviously written by AI I'll lose my shit. Is creativity already dead?

Worried Europe is too reliant on US tech? Our data shows you’re likely in the majority. Surveying 3,000 people in the UK πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§, Germany πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ, and France πŸ‡«πŸ‡·, we found that 8 out of 10 consumers are concerned about US tech dependence. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Let's dig into our findings... 1/11

Switched from ChatGPT to Le Chat. After the first week, no problems or issues while working or studying for me.

What do you use for enterprise IT infrastructure monitoring? Like host stats of linux/win servers, microservices etc.? Currently looking for alternatives for the system we use. Icinga, Grafana-Prometheus stuff, what are you people using?

for the past two days I had actually system engineering work to do and holy moly... if you do the stuff you actually are good at and not some random shallow work, work can be fun!

the Android on my phone just bricked itself out of nowhere for now reason. Factory reset doesn't work. Just flashing Android onto a sd card and install it like a desktop OS? Naaa, that would be to easy you need a phd in Google for this... Good thing is, no calls untill the new phone arrives

Since the AURs are down again, what are valid, easy to use OS alternatives? OpenSuse, Fedora, Void? Any other suggestions?

I finished writing my last paper before I can start with my Bachelor's thesis. I wrote and formatted the whole paper in #LibreOffice. 10/10 as easy to work with as Word/M365 or whatever you call it. Not missing any functionalities, highly recommend!

since I broke a rib I have now plenty of time to reinstall my gaiming pc. @cachyos.org with hyprland works great! I don't know how but it is even faster and "smoother" than Nobara with my Nvidia GPU 10/10 would highly recommend

Just found a professor for my bachelor's thesis who likes my topic. I can write my bachelor's thesis about Microsoft vs. Linux and Open Source (I'm working on a more scientific title). I can't believe I can write about a topic I'm generally interested in!
