Dear all, Helen passed away at 13:21 local time. Helen would not have wanted us to be sad for a long time. All they wanted was to be remembered. They looked forward to being rid of pain and to being at rest. Helen took great comfort in you, their friends and readers. pt. 1/2

pt. 2/2 You all brought them happiness and an emotional outlet throughout their sickness with your kind words and the platform you provided them. Her husband and children

This is a beautiful reflection on the way we characterize others and the importance of the idiographic in that. Brings me back to my Allport roots. Most elegant integration of personality is the nomothetic-idiographic for me.

Latest post. Don’t know how many I have still in me helendecruz.substack.com/p/cant-take-...

What is wild to me is that humans until industrialization would have two blocks of sleep. After a first sleep of some hours they would wake up and do stuff: visit friends, have sex, a small meal etc. And then they'd turn back in for a second longer sleep. So don't worry if you wake in the night.

also being a dad has made me realize how precious sleep and how deeply and utterly correct every tired parent was when they made some version of that "sleep while you can haha" joking advice before the kiddo arrived

Book concept: People start finding books in a Little Free Library that were never written or published in this world. Some are exactly what the "borrower" needs. Some are a delight. But some are dangerous. And the Little Free Library just might have a sinister agenda...

This story had me tearing up its true. Almost long sobs at one point & then they passed and fell into something else, a calm. I encountered Helen a time ago when she began live-tweeting out her first-time reading of ALL of Spinoza, down to the letters, and I was swept away by her reception of him.

We were in the eye of a tornado. A maga truck tried in vain to get out but to no avail. Then he got a chainsaw and began to slice his way out. A suburban mom said ' at least they're good for something '

The Incandescent! Just finished this and needed to run and tell everyone to read this book. If you want to get the foul taste of JKR out of your mouth, this is it. About adults, for adults, standalone, absolutely brilliant world-building, beautifully observed character writing, and slyly funny. ❤️

THE INCANDESCENT is a book about money and education and status symbols, about loving your career, about demons, about magic, about fantasy school - but most of all about how 'school' is always a kind of fantasy. Available now! US: bookshop.org/p/books/the-... UK: uk.bookshop.org/p/books/unti...
