We rushed to Bloor Street -- my husband, my friend, and me -- and just joined the throng. A kid about 13 years old rushed past me with his friends and "honked" my breast as he went "woooo." I mean, it was an assault, but such a shock from this elated kid that I just gasped and laughed.

I clearly remember that first World Series win, Yonge Street thronged, and as we plunged into the crowd my friend said, "It's going to be a night of people saying WOOOOOOO to each other"

Toronto: As Peter Ustinov fondly said, "it's like New York run by the Swiss." ❤️ #home #Toronto

At Yonge & Dundas Jays fans are obeying the pedestrian scramble, as is the custom & returning to sidewalk each light cycle.

After I interviewed him for CBC News, Mr. Gergen followed me on Twitter. I was thrilled and honoured. And later, when I called about another invu that he was unable to do, he was so gracious and generous with his time. His insights have been missed at a crucial time. Condolences to his loved ones.

Breaking news: David R. Gergen, who helped craft and protect the image of four presidents as a senior White House communications adviser, has died. He was 83.

Oh well, Sovereignty is also a big deal, especially now! 🇨🇦

Given it's #WorldPressDay, there is only one horse to root for. Go Journalism! #KentuckyDerby (OK Sandman is my second choice cuz he is so pretty). 🐎

Canadian reporter is CBC's Katie Simpson:

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

CANADIAN REPORTER: Trump's tone on Canada has shifted. He stopped talking about Canada becoming the 51st state. LEAVITT: I would reject that the president's position on Canada has shifted. Perhaps he just hasn't been asked about it. He believes Canadians would benefit from becoming the 51st state.

Maestro David Briskin led the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra and the audience in a rousing rendition of O Canada before the opening of Swan Lake. #ElbowsUp is not one of ballet’s traditional positions of the arms, but everyone in Canada is adapting.

The word "trade war" gets thrown around casually. They're usually more tits for tats, escalating diplomatic eye-poking. But what Trump is doing now with Canada, just upgraded with new tariffs this morning, is more and more like waging a war against our neighbor albeit it economic means.

Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau will meet the King tomorrow and, asked what they l’ll discuss, says nothing is more important to Canadians right now than standing up for Canadian sovereignty.

Colleagues, please stop this kind of reporting. It’s as offensive as “Who would be the local governor in Russian-ruled Ukraine?”

Canada as the 51st state? Trump thinks it would be a boon to his legacy. But it would also be a boon to Democrats, who would gain a lot more voters. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/17/u...

We had some spots in mind for the next few years: Savannah, Charleston, Wisconsin, a return to Disney World, possibly the Grand Canyon. No more. Not a dime. New plan: domestic travel and a bit of Europe. It's sad but necessary.

And I feel like we can do a lot better than 10%.

To understand the moment we are in as a country, this is incredibly important to take in:

Sergeant Gonell @sergeantaqgo.bsky.social sent me this picture. This is his call log. Each call is an automated Dept of "Justice" notification saying "The defendant you testified against is being released from the dept of corrections." Each defendant assaulted him.

I hope that the meteor really destroys everything. I don’t want future archaeologists to know we were saying stuff like this

Happy New Year to everyone except the jerks currently setting off continuous fireworks in our quiet residential neighbourhood. All the pets around think you're the worst.

Got rear-ended by a young driver last night. Quite a bit of damage. He was in a rental provided by his insurance company because he said he had just had an accident in his own vehicle earlier in the day!

Tracks. I've said this in numerous columns, others have said it, but the greatest enemy to drivers is other drivers. Whether it's delays, traffic or life or death or dents. Other drivers are the main threat. Everything else is distraction and intentional scapegoating to avoid the truth.

This is my one year anniversary on the @bsky.app! 🎉 I joined when you still needed an invitation code, but only recently started using in earnest. To mark the day, I just deactivated the other place after 12+ yrs. 😊

Our brave senior Daisy had dental surgery and several benign cysts removed today. We were worried since she is almost 13, but she's a trooper and the vet was so good with her. #bassethound #coneofshame
