In all the crazy, I wondered, what is Stars and Stripes reporting? 2nd home page article...journalistic independence under attack! Pleas to contact your representatives.

Saving this

Here is a video of a frozen creek that had begun to thaw, and the water was flowing beneath the thin ice on top. I took this because it was soothing and wonderfully bloopy and I wanted to listen to it for hours. You are all welcome to enjoy it, too. Let your brain settle here and rest for a moment.

Let’s talk about something not many people are chatting about and what’s actually happening right now. You might wonder why Imran Ahmed and the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) suddenly became targets of the U.S. government. The honest answer is that their research hit where it hurt.

Trying a new book club. Enjoyed the book Democracy Awakening. Not thrilled with the discussion of current events. I'll pass on the "what dems need to do..." blah blah. Was the youngest person in the room, again. The host was 90, didn't seem a day over 70. We should all be so lucky.

A thrilling new tool from Project Drawdown launched in the last couple of weeks. I use their website in class and presentations all the time.

Project Drawdown@projectdrawdown.bsky.social

Project Drawdown has always been the world’s leading guide to science-based climate solutions 🌏. With the new Drawdown Explorer, we’re moving beyond describing solutions → to spotlighting breakthrough strategies for accelerating climate action.

Yes and it's happened where I work.

Charlie Kirk's supporters have started a social media campaign reporting critics to their employers if users deem they posted negatively about Kirk or celebrated his death. They say it's in the name of accountability, while those being targeted say it's "cancel culture."

Should I be worried about how this question is phrased? Why isn't it just 'free from bias?' 'Does the faculty member create a classroom atmosphere free of political, racial, gender, and religious bias?'

I love Denmark. I visited with my family when I was 10 for a week. Made an impression. My whole adulthood is seeing Denmark top list after list with achievements in education, quality of life. Take me sweet Danes.

Being Liberal ®🗽🏳️‍🌈@beingliberal.bsky.social

Denmark has taught empathy in schools since 1993, helping children aged 6–16 develop compassion and social awareness. This early focus on emotional education has reduced bullying and fostered one of the world’s kindest societies. In the US we just give you a bullet proof vest, and hope for the best

Wtf? I remember when he said women run CEOs make him more money. Yay more women in the C-suit. Now, what the hell? Horrible. Sounds like he's a predator.

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

O’Leary: If any of you cared about the victims, you wouldn't drag these women back into the limelight… They don’t want you to help them anymore Cross: How do you know that? O’Leary: Don’t you think if it was you, you would rather get on with your life? Cross: No, I would want justice pursued

I have such mixed feelings about this.

Yung En Chee@yungenchee.bsky.social

Senator Whitehouse delivered his 300th Time to Wake Up climate speech, speeches he began in 2012 in Obama's first term “The fossil fuel industry has run the biggest & most malevolent propaganda operation the country has ever seen [..] Democrats have not done a good job of calling that out.”

I appreciate all the wise sci-fi qoutes circling.

"There's a reason you separate military and the police. One fights the enemies of the state, the other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people." - Commander William Adama, Battlestar Galactica

Another excellent reminder to get to know your neighbors.

WIRED@wired.com

FEMA will stop knocking on doors to provide aid to disaster survivors, per a memo obtained by WIRED this week. It comes as the agency is shifting responsibility for recovery efforts to local authorities. Oh, and it's hurricane preparedness week, btw.

Worth repeating. What's it going to take to stop this shit? Can we have the whole team fired? Focus a nation of activists on that. Fight back! Make them think twice.

Trump 2.0: Armed fed'l agents burst in (apparently a no-knock warrant). Since they'd worked the case, they knew who they were looking for. Instead, they found a mom & her 3 girls. Nonetheless, they sent them out into the rain in underwear & then took all their $ as evidence. kfor.com/news/local/w...
