Rowling *never* writes about women’s rights, workplace discrimination or the threats to women from predatory men. I tracked her posts for five months: Well over 200 hateful transphobic smears. Not a single post about women’s actual concerns or needs None

Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband. Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.

#XPNCountdown Picks picked. Honorable mentions: Any score written for a film which has remained mainly recognized only in the context of that film. John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Clint Mansell - all killers, but not really the music - film or music - TV crossovers I mostly ended up selecting.

Honorable mentions, cont: Spybreak!, Propellerheads - The Matrix. The Wachowskis don't miss with soundtracks. Steal My Sunshine, Lem - Go. More of a one-hit-wonder pick. Pretty in Pink, Psychedelic Furs - Pretty in Pink. Another very similar song made my top ten, so I regretfully cut this one.

Addendum: I can tell I'm going to be going back and realizing and regretting for the next week, but Perfect Day, Lou Reed - Trainspotting.

Honorable mentions, concl: "Once a decade, Doc and @jacksonpublick.bsky.social pay to license a song and they use the hell out of it." Like A Friend, Pulp. Season 4 finale, great song and amazing scene design around it. It Takes Two, Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock. RITBOTBH, just a great choice. Killer.

Honorable mentions, cont: Songs from commercials, or songs licensed for commercials. Sufjan Stevens' "Redford", but that's partially because he apologized for licensing it when it he did. Moby's entire album "Play". For a while I was tracking which songs hadn't been licensed, then I ran out.

Honorable mentions, cont: There's a lot of TV themes I just like, Parks and Rec and The Office, for example. "Italian Leather Sofa" by Cake, from Mission Hill. "Hockey Monkey" by James Kochalka Superstar, from The Loop. A shit-ton of 70's sitcom themes. Benson, Soap, Good Times.

A working list: Film Themes The Entertainer, Scott Joplin - The Sting Imperial Marc, John Williams - Star Wars Raiders March, John Williams - Raiders of the Lost Ark Love Theme from The Godfather, Nico Rota - The Godfather 9 to 5, Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 #XPNCountdown

I've started drafting my 885 best songs from movies and TV (xpn.org/885-countdown/) and it's such a broad category it's hard to get anything narrowed down. Fortunately, they posted a lot of the top ten lists for the DJs and staff at XPN.

xpn.orgVote for the 885 Greatest Songs from Movies & TV!The 885 Countdown is back… to the future! Ok, sorry for that ham-fisted reference. But it is relevant to this year’s countdown theme! (Back to the Future Part III takes place in 1885.) We’re asking yo...

My list is still forming, but I got some indirect encouragement from two XPN DJs when they listed songs I've listed. Eric Schuman scored points with me for including Tank! by the Seat Belts, and @djrobertdrake.bsky.social listed "Pretty in Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs, but we all know he rules.

Every penny less at the gas pumps before November is worth 10,000 dead Ukrainians. Vote as if Trump is on the ballot. He fucking is.

Today I learned my insurance can refuse to pay for dental work I need because I had "similar treatment in last five years" That makes sense, don't want me getting too complacent What, do I want ALL of my teeth to be healthy?

I got anxiety locked trying to get something for breakfast, then trapped on the El platform while packed trains went by, then when I did get on a train the seat I was in had been previously occupied by someone whose stink persisted long after they departed Have a better day than I'm having, I guess

Yesterday: I don't know any of the Congressional or Senate members from Missouri Today: I know one and he's a fucking dumbass

XPN has announced the theme of this years 885 Best Songs countdown, and it is "songs from movies and TV". My first thought was "they could just play Scorsese soundtracks for a couple of days". But there's going to be some gems in this list, I think. Theme songs, intro/outro music...

I had a crown come loose, so I was happy to hear my dentist could make time to see me today. I left work and went in to be told "okay, we'll send your x-rays to your insurance and they'll tell us what you can have done." This sucks, but I guess it's better than finding out later this wasn't covered.

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.
