Has anyone out here ever read BROTHER POWER THE GEEK from Joe Simon and Al Bare? And if you have...is this a superhero comic? Horror? Something else entirely? I don't ever recall hearing about it before. This does not look like the other comics DC was publishing in 1968.

Had a great time on the podcast this week talking to @deckholm.bsky.social about these books, and trying to explain how it was possible that I don't particularly like the early JLA/JSA stories, but i still love them. Comics can be confusing. comicsovertime.podbean.com/e/dc-sampler...

Can't wait to get back to reading and talking comics with @deckholm.bsky.social! Episode 1 of our fourth season drops next Wednesday, with a look at some of the books that built DCs Silver Age.

Getting a bit closer to having all the early Legion of Super-Heroes stories. Focusing on some of the non-Adventure Comics appearances currently, with these being the 6th, 10th and 12th LoSH books I believe. Not high grade copies, but as I plan to actually read them that's probably for the best!

I've long suspected that ever since my kids were born ('04 and '06) I've sort of been out of touch with pop culture. And I'm not a big TV guy. But even so, this list is a slap in the face. There are probably only 10 or 15 of these shows that I have watched even a single episode of!

I have been enjoying #Lanterns, but mostly have been thinking of it just as a fun sci-fi action show. This is a really interesting take on the series, and a worthwile read. I might need to watch more closely!

Somehow the #Vikings were down 25-10 at one point in this game, and looked completely hapless. Then one play seemed to turn it all around. They outscored the Packers 29 to -3 the rest of the way and ended up winning 39-22. The #nfl is weird.

Spent the afternoon at the Fargodome, and #NDSU put on a good show once again. The Bison played well on both sides of the ball, and after two games they are looking ready to take on the challenge of #FBS football. Air Force also looked really good today, so next week should be interesting!

If you could only give someone five #comics to read as an introduction to the early years of #dccomics Silver Age (1956-1960) what would you choose? My picks: Showcase #4 and #22, Adventure #247, Action #252 and Brave and the Bold #28.

I now have 2 full short boxes of unread recent comics waiting to be enjoyed and put away in the short-term storage drawers below. I've recently been trying to make some headway, but seem to just be further behind! Reading comics shouldn't feel like a job!! Anyone else hopelessly behind like this?

Catching up on a comic series from earlier this year, and after 5 issues I'm not actually sure what the hell is happening. Seems I'm missing something important. It's good, tho, and I was OK to just roll with it, and wait for answers. Then I see it's cancelled. Sigh. Such is the world of comics

Revisited Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #228 and #229 tonight. I remember how Chemical King's death messed me up when i was a kid, and I loved how it was the original three who brought in the killer. But I was not prepared for how hard these comics still hit me all these years later.

Crazy comics story, courtesy of Comic Book Historians. In 1974, a mailorder company-- called Adolf's!-- that dealt in repro Nazi Germany gear, advertised in Marvel books. Readers complained, and Stan lowered the boom on the ad dept.!

Just finished up a rewatch of Vampire's Kiss, and that movie is an absolute trainwreck. A crazy, sexy, insane, glorious trainwreck. Cage is a madman in this, but even so Jennifer Beals steals every scene she's in.

Got to see Frank Miller in person last week in Chicago, and now its time to watch frankmillermovie.com Been trying to find this documentary since it was teased a couple of years ago, and had no luck until it just quietly showed up recently on Apple TV!

Picked up OVERFLOW by @winstongambro.bsky.social this weekend at #fanexpochicago, and was completely drawn in by the world and premise. Its dark and dystopian (a bit Enemy of the State and a bit Dr. Strangelove) but with some mindbending new twists of its own! 👍

All right, here goes: in preparation for a book I'm writing, I'm going to try something very ambitious/stupid. I am going to attempt to watch every single American movie produced in the 1980s. In chronological order of release. And to talk about them here in the process.

now that we know how the new season of Reacher is (excellent), a thread about why you should watch What If A Man Was Large, The Show, in the form of a Q&A

Going back through my old First Comics Jon Sable run, and I was not prepared for how well the early issues hold up! Sable's origin story in 3-6 is especially great/tough to read. Any other fans of these books out here on bsky??

I really want to read MARVEL EXPLODES: FROM BULLPEN TO BIG BUSINESS, Paul Levitz's upcoming book about how Marvel changed, told by a guy who saw it all happen from the POV of the guy across the street, as it were. I was around for a lot of it...but I bet Paul saw it a lot more clearly than I did.

Went to #supergirl with the family tonight. The kids (college age) enjoyed it, which is great! I was less impressed. When Supergirl ended it left me feeling much the same way I did after watching Zack Snyder's Superman v Batman. I'm going to have to ponder this one a bit.

I knew that stashing all my old computers and computer parts in the garage for the last 20 years would eventually pay off!

Anyone know what the statute of limitations is on leaving a mostly finished LEGO build sitting around in the living room? It has now been two weeks, and i am thinking I'm within my rights to finish those last bags and get it out of the way! Thoughts??
