Some news: Last April, I left Ginkgo Bioworks after 8+ years as a software engineer there. Since then, I’ve been working on starting a new company called GenHub with a couple other ex-Ginkgo people, Bob Van Hove and Chris Mitchell. (1/5)

Solar farms in the Gobi are cutting dust storms. A study of 17 farms found the panels slow surface winds by more than 9% and make soil up to 17% less erodible, reducing springtime dust by about 352,000 tonnes a month. RenewEconomy buff.ly/bambHT8 #ShareGoodNewsToo

Something cool happened on the New England grid last Tuesday. Fossil gas production decreased to 12%, less than one gigawatt. All the rest was nuclear, renewable, and hydropower. (We imported some too, but in practice that’s hydro from Quebec.)

I check these graphs at least once a day, and that’s the lowest fossil gas usage I’ve seen in over a year. It will go up as we head into the winter, but last Tuesday was a preview of what our grid could look like in a few years, hopefully.

This happened because it was a windy, sunny, relatively mild day. Also, demand was already low, but because of a lot of behind-the-meter solar, we got a strong duck curve, meaning the lowest demand happened midday. This has been happening more and more often. isonewswire.com/2026/09/21/5...

Was at the world cycling championship women’s elite race in Montreal today. Demi Vollering won; I got a picture of her and the top three finishers on the last lap. One thing they don’t show on TV is the sweep car

Turkeys (the bird) are named in most languages after the place they are believed to have come from. In England they were imported from the Ottoman Empire. In Turkey, they are called “Indias”. In India, they are called “Perus”.

Tell me a fun fact.

My solar + electric system just crossed over to being a net exporter for the year to date. It’ll probably go back to being a net importer in November or December, but I’m enjoying it for now

Messi goes super saiyan in the last 20 of every match and every opposing coach is like, what if he didn’t and we could just defend a narrow lead until the whistle

Just read this morning there’s an effort to get rideshare drivers in Massachusetts to use EVs because they drive far more miles on average than anyone else, and I like how pragmatic my state is, overall

Quite a flex to turn up at the presidential palace, get him to confirm you as prime minister, call him unfit to serve with no moral authority, tell him to resign, and then pose for a picture
