The magic of a used bookstore is that you never know what you might find on any given visit. The added allure of Half Price Books is its affordability. With rare exception, everything really is half price. Finding what you’re seeking can feel like a miracle. texashighways.com/culture/half...

Made me really happy that Gianna LaMorte, our intrepid marketing master at @utexaspress.bsky.social, agreed to do this piece for @texashighways.bsky.social. There's love here for stores across TX, built out from her insane quest last year to visit 75 stores in 75 days to mark our 75th anniversary.

EL PASO 🧵 4 of 4 Celebrated author Benjamin Alire Sáenz wrote about his love affair with El Paso over 50 years. "I feel as if living here has taught me that I am a citizen of the world and that borders cannot keep us from belonging to each other." RIP, Benjamin. texashighways.com/culture/el-p...

Yay, tmrw I get to see geese at ACL. Second time seeing geese. I’m an original fan. I’m sure Cameron will have me onstage to say a few words.

When you’re sitting on a bucket pulling weeds in the front yard and your daughter pulls up in her friend’s ride, which is new and nicer than anything you’ve ever owned. At least my daughter smiled at me when she got out and said hi before going in the house.

This is a photo of Texas Longhorn superfan Scott Wilson in his longhorn-themed Cadillac. Scott was undoubtedly on his way to a game when this was taken. Before he died last year at the age of 74, Scott had seen 595 longhorn games in a row, without missing a single one. Courtesy Scott's social media.

When cities invest in nature, they invest in people. It was a delight working with @hoinski.bsky.social on this story that shows how McAllen, Texas, has done just that at Quinta Mazatlan.

Every once and a while there’s a story that comes through the pipeline that all the editors gush over. This is that story.
