Advising someone who just lost their job to start their own indie studio is like telling someone who just watched their house burn down to walk into the woods and try their luck hunting elk with a spoon to survive.

The very last task I had at BioWare before I left to pursue a new opportunity was to paint this pose of Solas embracing the Inquisitor (I didn't paint this entire image, it was just the figures). Even at the time it felt poignant that this would be my last contribution to Dragon Age.

Tried to keep mostly calm here. BioWare management shouldn't be let off the hook for its own part in the troubles of the past decade, but every story we hear about how EA mismanaged the studio is a reminder that this was entirely avoidable.

BioWare closing rings the same hollow bell in my soul as WB and Paramount becoming “Skydance.” Across movies, TV, publishing, games, we’re watching decades of legacy and history being hijacked and fed to the furnace of an abyssal engine with no desire beyond the abstract concept of “More.”

Former BioWare Senior Writers Mary Kirby (Varric, Vivienne, Lucanis) and Sylvia Feketekuty (Liara, Josephine, Emmrich) and Sarah Hayward (Former BioWare Cinematic Director) have found a home at North Mist with many others in our network.

Very heavy news as our former studio, BioWare closes its doors today. It was a formative place for many. However, many former BioWare devs are scattered around the industry. Find them, support them. Like, follow, comment and help us prove there is still support for the types of games we make!

Gonna do a Nathan Fielder bit where I get an MBA, become an exec at a game company, pitch the idea of selling more copies of a game than it cost to make and then eventually become CEO of all video games.
