I watched the CARRIE show. It's actually pretty damn good, even though it also feels like the start of a MCU-style Stephen King thingy. Of course, that's built into King's entire career, so just don't let him be too involved in it.

No big spoilers, but the backstory seems to be a good set-up for a FIRESTARTER series. Mike Flanagan has been making King adaptations forever, maybe this is just a natural evolution?

Don't Americans remember sportsmanship? I do, and it is all about decency, honor, compassion, considerate behavior.

Vivek Ramaswamy on his ad featuring Amy Acton’s abusive mother, who stayed with her husband who was indicted for raping Acton starting at 9 years old: "In politics, sometimes, it's a tough sport"

Already got my early voting plan lined up. Going to one of the few non-church** voting locations, then lunch with my wife at a local BBQ joint. ** Republican mayor ended almost all non-Christian voting locations, for perfectly good reasons I'm sure?

Shane Gillis isn't funny. There's a whole universe of jokes about women in tight clothing at the gym. Here's one: "Women have confidence in the gym, all that tight clothing. I wish I had that! I don't even take my t-shirt off in the pool, or the shower... at my house!" At least it is something?

I wanted all my Jewish friends to know that they are loved & that I've been thinking of y'all today. If I had the words to express everything I feel I'd use them, just..Please know that I stand w/ you today & every day..that I care about you & your safety.

Lord knows I don't want Palestinians killed... ...but I don't want Israelis killed either. But we need to remember on this day of all days that it was Hamas who started this current war. Hamas. Stop pretending they are freedom fighters. Stop pretending 10/7 never happened. Stop hating on Jews.

First horror movie watch of October: Undertone: creepy little film, a bit too long for its limited story, and doesn't quite stick the landing. Maybe 6.5/10, worth a watch if you've got two hours to kill.

For some unsane reason, which I will discuss with my therapist this week, I bought a bottle of Steve-O's hot sauce. Self-loathing, the need to feel *something* other than ennui, maybe to jumpstart my capacity for joy once the pain subsides? Here we go? Ouch. Ouch! OUCH!!!! Hmmm. I'm okay?

This is actually a good version of an extra-spicy hot sauce! The first taste kind of numbs your mouth a bit, and from there you can really detect the fruity pepper flavors with a hint of garlic and citrus. What it doesn't have is the extra capsaicin extract, all the heat comes from real peppers.

More words about his Nazi apologism doesn't actually make things better.

At the risk of doing social media wrong, lemme suggest folks engage with what I wrote, rather than the 280 character summary. There's plenty to disagree with in the actual piece I wrote, but it's of a different nature than some of the reactions I'm seeing to this thread.

Advice for my younger friends: if you want to encourage yourself to stay healthy and functional, to exercise and eat well... ...pick a couple of motherfuckers you really want to outlive.

Doing a quick inventory of the frozen on-sale meat I froze for this week's chili, and... you know I know you know I overdid it slightly. Should be enough meat for tacos and meat sauce and empanadas and a cottage pie as well as a huge Dutch oven of chili.
