SIGH. Honor demands that one admit if they've also thought this through if they're going to make fun of Andy Weir for this, so... The proper way to do this is to just do a "Holodeck Malfunction" story, obviously. It's cleaner and Trek cares about how things "work" whereas SW doesn't.

SlashFilm@slashfilm.bsky.social

Sci-fi author Andy Weir has an idea for a Star Trek/Star Wars crossover that would involve the events of A New Hope and The Wrath of Khan.

So in the MonsterVerse movies' reality, that Denzel line from "TRAINING DAY" would plausibly be a reference to historical events of the 1970s instead of a movie from the 1930s ...but then how would even Denzel know about it if only MONARCH knew about Kong until the late 2010s? 🤔

Adapt Birds II into a miniseries and then we'll talk.

A local corner pizzeria. A young man orders a pizza. A normal order, cheese pizza, with extra cheese. But then, for reasons unfathomable, the boy decides to hold the sauce, and then, the crust. He has just ordered a cheese with nothing. Cheese floating in an empty void known as... the Twilight Zone.

this summary does Harris dirty. her first argument is that impeaching Trump is a waste of investigative resources that should go elsewhere- presumably at cabinet members- instead

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

The thing is, fundamentally "Impeach Trump even though it probably won't force him out because it bleeds the beast" and "Do the work instead even though they'll veto and block most of it" are the SAME ARGUMENT performing for two halves of the same audience 🤷‍♂️

Man you guys love to forget that every politician lies through their teeth constantly, especially in the week before Election Day. Wait until January, then get mad. Being angry just makes you miserable anyway.

Harris's single greatest weakness imo is she is a fundamentally very cautious politician, which is itself very much a product of the path of 'the how' she came to power

"The votes aren't there" is cowardice masked as savviness. There has to be accountability for their crimes. The House has a duty to make the case here and if some GOP senators want to weasel out, make them own that vote. Don't let pundits and "strategists" talk you out of doing your damn job.

Bolosonaro is being investigated for being on honest to God Brazilian crime lord who was running to do for him and his crime family what our President did for his, lost, then fled Brazil illegally, and if Dems aren’t running this story 24/7 for the next week they are leaving real votes on the table.

I enjoy the Cheesecake Factory. If MAGAs understood the major reason the company is generally successful right now (high employee satisfaction + retention) they wouldnt be pretending to like it as much.

Rock journalism's JOB is practically to be wrong in the zeitgeist, but I don't get why "rock fans" get so SPECIFICALLY angry when Olivia Rodrigo is included in anything (by which I mean I know exactly why they are angry)

i've come around on the cheesecake factory story. it's a soothing balm to see the kind of pantomimed, intentionally stupid chattering class outrage of the obama era i am now nostalgic for. the intentionally stupid chattering class discourse of the trump era is so much more miserable

... ... ... ... ... ...SIGH. So, the breadcrumbs to this HAS to be: "'WIDOWS BAY' was kinda-sorta like a 'JAWS' show because Mayor, but we can't do an actual 'JAWS' show because Spielberg will say 'no!' so what else has killer animals on an island?" 🤷‍♂️

Also how do you do this as a "murder mystery" without it being a self-parody where every cold open is: "...who did this crime?" [smash cut] TITLE CARD: "THE BIRDS" "oh." bsky.app/profile/disc...

Not super familiar with this outlet and I try NOT to do "callout" posts so DON'T take this as that BUT: IMO framings like this don't help good movies, even if meaning to. "WILDWOOD" deserves to be more seen, but it also *exceeded* its financial expectations and had unique financing and distribution

Laika doesn't raise (all) of its own money the same way other studios do ("officially" or otherwise), they have a different pipeline, etc; and starting with this one their distributing through Fathom which is a VERY different arrangement from most theatrical releases (pluses and minuses 🤷‍♂️)

No, Andy. No. You're a good writer but, no. No. Just... no. This is why they're having Kevin Smith write the "Versus Marvel" crossover and the premise is seemingly just "The 'Star Wars' movies come alive and The Avengers say jokes about 'Star Wars' and everybody punches everybody." Good decision.
