World War III is going to be fought over access to potable water, not oil. Trust me on this one. #worldnews www.theguardian.com/environment/...

“What happens when this system suffers cascade failure?” “It’s been meticulously designed and rigorously tested to not fail in that manner.” “Right. But what happens when it does?”
“It won’t interfere with the current building. It’ll be near it, but not touching it, and pays total respect to the existing building, which I’m the biggest fan of.” —Donald Trump, 31 July, 2025 The Bonwit Teller building would like a word.

This is an excellent piece calling out Kirk’s faux Christianity. The Guardian piece is also rather good.

"You can't policy your way out of a propaganda problem" is such a good line. Policy matters, but how you communicate stuff matters more right now.
I'm kind of shocked that anyone is still proposing technocratic solutions to the "debate" over immigration. Even if this were a good idea (and it is not), Republican elites and media will never tell their base about it. You can't policy your way out of a propaganda problem!
To analogize the state of US politics to a Monty Python sketch… Republican Party = Very Silly Party Democratic Party = Silly Party What we need is a Sensible Party. Heck, I’d settle for a Slightly Silly Party.

The world's largest sand battery just launched in Finland! Developed by Polar Night Energy, this is a massive step for clean energy. It stores 100 MWh of thermal energy in sand, providing cost-effective alternative to LI batteries for long-term heat storage. www.pv-magazine.com/2025/08/28/w...

My heart. Members of the US Public Health Service (the uniformed service branch no one has ever heard of, who serve at the CDC and elsewhere in the US), massed within the CDC property, saluting their departing uniformed leaders who were escorted out by security today after resigning on principle.

A 🧵 on "limb cooling" and how it relates to tracking tropical waves across Africa: 1) We use geosynchronous weather satellites for constant monitoring of clouds over the globe. The satellites are placed into orbit such that they rotate at the same speed as the Earth. There are several of these. 🌀🧐🛰️🧪

Hawley is such a tool. The shortest bar on his own chart is for George W. Bush.
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) knows this is a disingenuous argument of why there are so many nationwide injunctions against Trump. Professor Kate Shaw stuffs him in a locker with her answer, ‘Trump is engaging in much more lawless activity than other presidents.’ Brava Kate!💥🔥💥

Wow. What a video. It appears that a not insignificant number of people in Russia are every bit as batshit crazy as Republicans/evangelicals here in the US are.
This is extraordinary. The most amazing part is that she actually had to look up and confirm what the Fourth Commandment is. @jamestalarico.bsky.social with a masterful takedown of Republican hypocrisy.
Texas Republicans just passed a bill forcing every teacher to post the Ten Commandments in their classroom. They passed it on the Sabbath… breaking the 4th Commandment. Maybe they should try following the Ten Commandments before mandating them.
As of 20 May, anyone want to guess how much FEMA has done to assist tornado-ravaged Missouri and Kentucky? Let me answer that for you: Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Because, as we know, the Felon-in-Chief and Republicans are the party of “FUCK YOU!”
“The Government have got it wrong. They have been turned by […] Silicon Valley [who] have persuaded the Government that it is easier for them to redefine theft than make them pay for what they stole.” Great news out of the UK this day for songwriters, poets, authors, and artists of every ilk.
