Katie Kersh, an immigration lawyer who’s been in Springfield Ohio a lot in the past couple years, tells me just now: “ICE is absolutely everywhere in Springfield. It is very visible.” noticeable ramping up lately. It is going to likely get… worse

Pete Hegseth is using the deaths of American servicemembers to push his own political agenda. A Gold Star father explicitly says he never told Hegseth to “finish the job” in Iran, despite Hegseth’s claims. Exploiting grieving families with lies is a disqualifying lack of integrity.

Ossoff: "The American people need to know that the president is fundraising for his political campaign and his PAC using images of American service members killed in action, and it's a disgrace"

Heard this morning on @marketplace.org ’s Morning Report: Penn Wharton Budget Model — a nonpartisan initiative that analyzes the fiscal impact of federal policy — estimates the daily cost of Trump’s war at roughly $800 million. Yes, DAILY.

Every time the news pisses me off, I sign up for a new postcard-writing campaign for voter registration and turnout. This weekend I wrote 200 postcards to eligible voters in Wisconsin and Virginia about upcoming local elections. Defeating this regime means getting out the vote. 🗳️

That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers. Reminder that Congress has the power to stop this.

Mamdani: I am in support of abolishing ICE… I'm tired of waking up every day and seeing a new image of someone being dragged out of a car, dragged out of their home, dragged out of their life.

The House is scheduled to vote on a new Senate-approved appropriations bill this Thursday, January 22. (The Senate is in recess this week.) The legislation includes an increase in funding for DHS—on top of the already-huge amount they received through the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill Act. 1/2

I called my representative and asked that he: 1) insist the DHS funding be voted on as a standalone bill (and not bundled with other stuff that would be good to pass) and 2) vote NO. United States Capitol switchboard: (202) 224-3121 2/2

We have been trying to analyze the Trump health “plan” but I worry that unless Congress puts something real together we are analyzing air. Big Q’s such as are pre-x protected are impossible to answer from their Fact Sheet. What we do know: it partly captured a news cycle.

Before we can ever tackle reasonable immigration reform, we need to put an end to federally sanctioned—and incentivized—violence. Equally damaging is the administration’s rush to spin its narrative after every tragedy—even before a comprehensive investigation.

On C-SPAN tonight, the host and a call-in listener had this exchange about next year’s midterms: Host: Do you want to see more Mamdanis, or more candidates like Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger? Voter: I want someone who cares. And all three of these people seem to care.
