thinking about what venture capital has done to the arts and getting insanely mad at the concept of banking. cosimo de’ Medici i’m going to kick your ass. i guess

i have so many feelings about this. none of them good. 20 years ago people were telling me that jrpgs as a genre were now obsolete because of this studio’s work. they seemed bigger than god. at the absolute forefront. then i watched them get slowly strangled until now they’re just… gone.

BREAKING: Electronic Arts is cutting 400 jobs and shutting down BioWare, the legendary development studio behind Dragon Age and Mass Effect. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

i can think of no more definitive proof that the american games industry is a failed fucking experiment than this. a studio that pushed absolute limit of the medium, that created decades of defining works, the gold standard of their specialization, whose mechanics became its shorthand, gone.

i’m so angry. i’m so sad. i’m so tired. some days i just want to walk away from this industry, this interest, this medium. take up oil painting, or guitar. never give these horrible fucking corporations (or the saudis that own them) another cent. maybe i’d be better for it. maybe we all would.

Loved getting to be on this one with David! Really wasn’t sure where it was going to go with how heavy the subject matter was, but I’m happy with how positive it wound up by the end!

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

TIL that the opening of Onimusha 3 was directed by Takashi Yamazaki, director of Godzilla: Minus One! Sadly, nearly every upload of it is a stretched, GenAI abomination. So, I ripped and painstakingly upscaled what I consider the greatest video game cinematic ever from its 2007 PC release! Enjoy!

Oh, and if you didn’t know, Donnie Yen (Ip Man, John Wick 4) handled the choreography and Keita Amemiya (Zeiram, Hakaider, Cyber Ninja, Hagane) was responsible for the art direction and monster designs. Hard to imagine a more goated team.

1) This isn't about generating games or assets with AI, it's just about using automation tools for some processes like bug testing which isn't inherently bad 2) IGN should be embarrassed for this headline. It doesn't say "AI generation" as in generative AI, it's 世代, "generation" as in "time period"

Make stuff. For the love of all that there is, please just keep making stuff! Doesn't matter if it's bad, good etc. Just *keep* making stuff.

oh look! ceding ground on trans rights also means sacrificing YOUR rights! “trans aren’t my rights, i’m not trans.” really? cause republicans sure seem to think they’re directly linked!

THIS is the republican strategy once again. weaponize your bigotry against you. “you don’t want healthcare! that means immigrants will get it too!” “you don’t want childcare! that means black people will get it too!” “you don’t want bodily autonomy! THAT MEANS TRANS PEOPLE WILL GET IT TOO!”

stop throwing trans people under the bus. stop letting democrats get away with it. purge yourself of you “ick” around trans folks and fight for their (your) rights. if we go to the camps, we’ll only be keeping your bunk warm.
