I’ve been following #bcpoli since I was a kid and this #bcelxn was among the wildest I’ve seen. First BC Conservative government since 1928. Second largest government caucus in BC history. Worst NDP showing in 25 years. This will make one hell of a book someday. I can’t wait to read it.

The Conservatives will end the night fairly close to the 900,000 or so votes they got in 2024. The NDP will go from just under 950,000 votes in 2024 to less than 700,000 this time. Turnout was down — but how much of it was demotivated 2017-2024 NDP voters who stayed home is a massive question.

Tonight, the Vancouver Convention Centre markers and Olympic cauldron will be lit up in red, white, and green to commemorate the events of 1956 and the many Hungarians 🇭🇺 who arrived in British Columbia.

Today marks 70 years since the start of the 1956 #Hungarian Revolution. A decade ago, I marked the 60th anniversary with a series of reports based on interviews I conducted while in #Hungary. Here are those reports, as they were filed 10 years ago. johnackermann.substack.com/p/hungarys-r...

New: The BC Conservatives continue to lead with 41.7 per cent support, followed by the NDP at 36 per cent, and the BC Greens at 14.6 per cent, according to Mainstreet Research. #bcpoli #bcelxn

New: The B.C. Conservatives hold a narrow three-point lead over the B.C. NDP, 46 per cent to 43 per cent — a margin that amounts to a statistical tie — according to fresh Angus Reid Institute polling. #bcpoli #bcelxn

Enjoyed a night of chill tunes by Hermanos Gutierrez at the Queen E. Theatre. They played for nearly two hours, including material from their brand new album, Los Ojos Del Còndor. I also appreciated the funny stories between the songs and the shout-outs to Jack Johnson and Dan Auerbach. Well done!

Digging into Beck’s new “Ride Lonesome” LP, the third in his “sad bastard” trilogy that started with “Sea Change” in 2002 and continued with “Morning Phase” in 2014. A nice soundtrack for the end of summer; still burning bright in places but with a bit of that autumn chill of melancholy in others.
