The International Social Cognition Network (ISCON) is pleased to announce Dr. April Bailey as the 2025 winner of the Early Career Award! Dr. Bailey is a Lecturer of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. She earned her B.A. from Colgate University and her PhD in 2019 from Yale University.

Dr. Bailey's research integrates social cognitive theory with computational linguistics to shed light on biases that impact various social groups, with a particular focus on gender and its intersection with other identities.

The selection committee felt that the combination of cognitive and social psychology in Dr. Bailey's work constitutes quintessential social cognition while simultaneously highlighting methodological sophistication.

As expected, NSF is cutting gender and sexual orientation data on U.S. STEM workforce surveys (on shaky legal ground). I'm grateful that following my request (shorturl.at/9rFMW) OMB required NSF to post an official rationale, which will be crucial to how we'll restore these questions in the future.

I’m stunned and dismayed at this news. It’s a loss to the field that Franki’s research agenda has been undermined.

I'm disappointed to share that my NSF career grant on anti-Asian dehumanization was terminated. This affects ongoing project activities, which have shown great progress so far, and support for my research team and more. I'm sad to share that the hiring of the postdoc role is currently on pause.

🧪 Tip: You have the right to contest a grant termination, even though NSF says you don't. 🧵 On Friday, NSF terminated 402 grants (per Musk's DOGE). The notification letters had one of the most egregious violations of fed regulations I've seen so far in these cases: "not subject to appeal"

Megan Zahneis@mzahneis.bsky.social

Here's a copy of an NSF grant termination notice that went out today. "NSF is issuing this termination to protect the interests of the government pursuant...on the basis that they no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities." Not subject to appeal. #HigherEd #AcademicSky

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale

🧵1/4 Excited to celebrate Anna Huang‘s first first-authored paper just published in EJSP. 🥳 In this theoretical article, Anna explores how Social Identity Theory (SIT) and Self-Categorization Theory (SCT) apply to individuals with Mixed racial-ethnic identities.

Any sources for setting appropriate sample sizes for qualitative research? I’m hearing a lot of arbitrary judgments of samples being too small without any reference or justification provided.
