Can Andy Burnham bring back hope to UK housing delivery? My reflections on the new PM's approach, the UK's housing culture and the changing nature of housing need. And how can Build to Rent (BTR) and Rental Living help people, places and the economy into the future? btrnews.co.uk/article/can-...

Rather than dismissing as 'bad apples', playing the victim or random whataboutery, surely a better line to take would be to illustrate the vast majority of 'good apples'? I wonder why they feel unable to do this..?

This trend is real, and is likely to have continued still further since 2024. It’s also unlikely to reverse without significant delivery of additional homes right across the tenure spectrum. This needs to include purpose-built rental homes that actually suit more people’s circumstances.

Young people are switching from private renting to living at home. In 2012-2014, a third of people aged 20-24 were private renters. This has fallen to 28%, while the proportion of people the same age living with parents has risen from 51% to 56%. Read more ⬇️ buff.ly/k30vVVD

An excellent appointment for @housingforum.org.uk - and very good news for the coherence of the wider housing sector. Congratulations, Alex!

Breaking News: Just seen Matthew Pennycook’s tweet (‘post on X’ if you prefer). He retains his role as Housing Minister. Phew. Continuity is to be maintained (a rare feature over recent years) and, whilst increased urgency is badly needed, progress on policy and implementation can continue…

RIP Brian Wilson In a world where the word ‘legend’ is overused, Brian was indeed a genuine legend. The influence he has had on popular music since the ‘60s is simply immeasurable. So sad, but thank you for the music that has shaped so many lives… 🙏😢

My personal rule of thumb for #SpendingReview commentary is the phrase “the devil will be in the detail”. If I come across this cliched phrase, I move on to listen to / read someone else. This rule is not only hard, but remarkably fast… 🙄

“Everyone rents at some time during their lives – Build to Rent enables them to rent well.” My thoughts on how #BuildToRent can improve its narrative - to improve understanding and to get more quality rental homes built for the people and places that need them… #BTR btrnews.co.uk/btr-has-a-gr...

There are times when you must speak, not because you are going to change the opposing side, but because if you do not speak, they have changed you.

A strong new report that illustrates how #BuildToRent not only provides quality, secure and well-managed homes for people, but delivers real social impact to its residents and neighbouring communities. Some great insights and examples which should bust a few myths and support new #BTR development.

Important by Martina Lees in yesterday's @thetimes.com - a bleak assessment of just how far the UK has failed to deliver and maintain sufficient social & affordable #housing. A tale of false economies over decades, which now presents huge challenges. Hope this Gov't will address. bit.ly/4g87Ql4

Watching the #ARSMNU #FACup match has reminded me of a pet peeve. A 'missed penalty' should mean the attempt was off-target (i.e. striker's fault). If it was on-target, but saved by the keeper, it should be a 'saved penalty' (i.e. keeper's credit). I feel weirdly strongly about this distinction...

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square. 45² = 45 x 45 = 2025 Also, 9² x 5² = 2025 40² + 20² + 5² = 2025 My favourite? 1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025 #Mathematics #teaching #education
