I'd like to ask Brexity types to explain what exactly EU freedom of movement is, and maybe they could also detail the numbers involved these days. Who it is moving around, and how, exactly, this would be really bad for the UK? And why are other EU countries OK with it? Questions, questions.

When I was a child thousands of people died needlessly every year because seat belts were not compulsory.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

This week, we opened 385 new affordable homes in Brooklyn. We’ll soon grow the Innovative Urban Village to 2,000 affordable homes, child care, jobs, a grocery store and a performing arts center. That’s what it looks like to build a city without pricing out the working class.

It doesn't matter if a rejoin conversation crowds out all the other pressing conversations, one only needs one nationally popular conversation to win power. Burnham should stick with the possibility of "going all the way".

The EU is not a separate issue competing with Britain's economic debate; it is integral to it. The deeper question here is whether Britain is capable of discussing its future relationship with Europe without treating European consent, interests and institutional obligations as afterthoughts.

Why indeed? I still vividly remember the Leave leaflet with a big red arrow from Turkey and Syria to the UK, Dad's Army style, as well as the colleague saying his dad in Yorkshire voted Leave to stop the Syrians coming. It was a deliberate conflation that still haunts (hence 'small boats' etc)

Matt Bomer and Simon Halls have built a life together away from the constant spotlight of Hollywood. More than 20 years together, married since 2011, three sons and a life built around family. Sometimes the strongest love stories are the ones kept closest to home.🏳️‍🌈❤️

Would be good if we had a PM prepared to talk honestly about what responsible sovereignty should mean, rather than sticking with the brexity version that’s all about rejecting teamwork, bowing to Trump, erecting monumental trade barriers and waving big ‘you’re not welcome’ signs at foreigners.

Canadian PM Mark Carney: “To be sovereign goes beyond being able to feed, fuel and defend ourselves. “It requires secure access to artificial intelligence, to space, semiconductors, critical minerals, clean energy.

The only 4 constituencies where rejoining the EU wasn’t the preferred option were those of Lee Anderson, Farage, Tice and Lowe. In those 4, the top answer was ‘don’t know’. Confirming that Brexit has no real support at all. Not surprising for a total shitshow. And makes red lines seem very silly.

'Not at any cost mean' means without freedom of movement. Which would benefit us, but the consensus of those with 'justified concerns mass immigration' is that hordes of E.Europeans would flood in. Well, they have the rest of Europe to flood into and they aren't flooding in there.

Bringing back FoM would more likely than not give Labour a chance at fixing the Brexit disaster. Unfortunately, they're too shite at governing to realise.

Indeed. I rather think Farage has to be discredited first. But until we get a decent trading (and political) relationship with the EU, and this requires FoM there is no moving forward.

💯 agree on that. We actually need FOM. But as you say, Leave very successfully and disingenuously conflated the two. A lot of work would need to be done and massive amount of political capital would be spent. Danger of reviving Reforms fortunes just as they’re starting to fall.

Freedom of movement isn't an issue in the EU. It's immigration from outside the EU. In the UK Leave dishonestly conflated the two, and Labour continues to do so. That is appalling.

Some chap has been claiming today that freedom of movement was bad for many people in the UK. It wasn't. There were issues in a very few areas which were unused to immigration, though the issues were largely invented.. However, those areas which attract the most immigrants had no problem with FoM.

Cornwall voted leave having received the meaningless promise that the EU subsidies would be replaced by the UK government. 'It's our money anyway!' The money never came.
