"Human extinction now possible this century." Think about those words. And then think about the one party that has consistently put the environment above growth-at-all-cost capitalism. Vote as if your life depends on it. johnmenadue.com/post/2026/10...

@london.gov.uk I'm a big fan of your work as mayor and your support for London's diverse community, so I'm *hugely* disappointed to see someone as divisive as J K Rowling being chosen to do the Christmas lights in London. how can it be appropriate to have someone preaching & funding trans hatred?

#ShowerThought: another limitation of writing in the first person point of view is the implication that the viewpoint character survives, as otherwise they'd never live to tell the story. So it can remove a lot of tension: you know they live through whatever is happening.

you dont have to love cats, but if you hate them, you can't be trusted. cats are consent creatures. they have rules about how/when they can be touched. if you dont like creatures with rules, that signals to me that you'd barrel over boundaries. i know its weird but that's how it works in my head.

So, at Rose City Comic Con, I have never had a moment without a line at my table and I cannot tell you how much it means to me that these lovely people like my stories. I haven’t had one moment to see the con yet, Hope to today. Thank you to everyone who came by so far!

Up there with professing hatred of cats as a red flag: being derisive of children’s stories, whether books, TV, plays. I am not holding you hostage and forcing you to watch Paw Patrol or Cailliou. You can certainly have opinions on quality! But shitting on it for existing? Nah.

Those of a particularly weak disposition should look away now as I have updated my profile to include an actual photo of myself... They tell me it is essential for authors to have, but I can't be the only one who HATES looking at images of themself can I?! Here it is below in all its gory glory...

So we are just going to let an industry continue that itself admits to there being a 10% change it could kill all humans?! This is utter insanity! How can we tolerate even a 1% chance of human extinction? Why do we allow these techbros to continue like this? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

And after using the name of my book series as a hashtag - #AstonSaints - I find myself extremely glad that no one else has ever used it before!

I just got a snazzy new mic to record the #AuthorRead #AudioBook of my book series, #AstonSaints. Apparently, authors reading their own work is particularly loved by fans as the author knows the characters and story the best and so can convey it better than anyone else. Other authors find this too?

That's a real sign you're onto something. When you actually want to read your own work, it means you're writing with clarity and voice, not just going through motions. Rereading your own stuff as a way to get back in the flow is smart too. Keeps the thread alive.

I hope that this is not too narcissistic and self-regarding, but - I always get a kick out of going over my own work and I find myself really enjoying reading my own writing. All I have to do next I suppose is get my website and Patreon finished and see if anyone ELSE enjoys reading it!

You know how the core, foundational advice for any writer is always "write what you would want to read yourself"? Well, I always find that when I am reviewing what I have written so I can get up to speed with where I left off last time so I can start again, that... - I love reading my own writing!

I am very new to this whole "author" thing - I am still setting up my website, social media and Patreon. But - I can't be the only one with this problem can I? - I've created a band that the characters in my book are members of, and I am gutted that I will never hear them play in real life!
