For those hollering that it *obviously* wasn't a swing: I don't think that position is tenable.

Matt Trueblood@matrueblood.bsky.social

The check-swing replay we got from the RF corner doesn't really tell me much. The aerial shot looked like 52/48 swing to me. I don't think that was a particularly egregious call, though I would have said the same if it were called a non-swing.

Well, here we are again, needing to expand the y-axis range... this time for recent Niño 3.4 SST values. 😩 (There should be a blue dot at the end of the blue line showing the latest daily SST value. It's not visible because it's, well, off the chart.)

No matter where you shop, you're getting screwed by Amazon. Amazon has found a way to make everything you buy - at Target, at a mom-and-pop shop, even direct from the manufacturer - more expensive. And they're not the only one: Expedia's done the same thing, but for hotel rooms.

If I'm the publisher of that paper (theirs lives and works out of NW Indiana), there would be designs for a win and a loss and we would authorize overtime for the press operators. This is a rare moment for the PRINT daily newspaper to be relevant in the lives of its readers. They own a press!

To be clear, the State Journal has an excellent sports staff. Better than they deserve, to be honest. Management is failing to do their most important job: showcase that work for the paying readers.

Heard this from Verducci: Brewers were throwing 2/3 fastballs to the Dodgers, averaging over 97 mph. How could anyone have picked L.A. to win, as the Fox studio dorks did consistently? Vibes?

In addition, the Strib sponsored the infamous Homer Hankie, which were given away and waved by fans in the Metrodome. All of this is to say, the World Series is a BIG DEAL. And the State Journal treats it like a random hockey win or something. Why is that? Well...

The Fish Hatchery printing plant has eliminated all but one shift. The newspaper itself is designed in Northwest Indiana. I'm not sure they have a sports editor working in the state of Wisconsin. So everything on that front page was laid out and placed, with a hole waiting for the Brewers story.

I still have the Minneapolis Star Tribune published the morning after the Minnesota Twins won the American League pennant in 1987. The ENTIRE front page of the paper (not the sports section) is dedicated to the win. People lined up outside the downtown offices to get extra copies.
