If Trump is serious about tariffs on movies, it's a very dangerous escalation. Tariffs have not traditionally been applied to services, and the United States is a massive net exporter of services. We would be extremely vulnerable to any service-based retaliation.

Trump says movies produced outside the U.S. are a national security threat. So he’s imposing a 100% tariff on all movies that are “produced in foreign lands.”

Biggest mistakes I'm seeing in early reporting (thread): 1. Tariffmageddon isn't over: Lotsa tariffs to account for, but the average tariff rate is only down around one quarter. So most of the pain of Liberation Day is still with us.

The word "decimate" comes from the event where a tenth of soldiers in a unit were killed. Well, in two days Trump *decimated* America's economy with his tariffs. (This last happened because of COVID, and the 2008 financial crisis. It's NEVER been self-inflicted, until now.)

Right-wing YouTuber Tim Pool has made it to the White House pool — someone from his “Timcast” channel will be part of today’s pool duty covering the president. Last year, DOJ revealed Pool was receiving millions of dollars from the Russian gov. Pool says he didn’t know where it was coming from.

I like paying taxes just as much as anyone (not very much). But this is DUMB! I screwed up last year & had to file an amended return. I’m expecting a decent check back. It’s been 10+ months and I still haven’t gotten it! If this cut goes through, I’ll *never* see my money back!

BREAKING The IRS is drafting plans to cut its workforce of 90,000 by as much as half. A reduction in force of tens of thousands of employees would render the IRS “dysfunctional,” said John Koskinen, a former IRS commissioner. Full Story: bit.ly/43smNfr

Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns. 100% of his salary is paid by WA state. Elon fired him. Share his story.

They're a party of internet trolls with no vision or original ideas to improve people's lives. Everything they say is outrage porn designed to distract you from the fact that they have no plan to lower grocery prices or make housing more affordable.

Trump is helping an accused human trafficker, a rapist, and a man who formed an organized crime group to exploit young women. I’ll say it again: This is the most corrupt administration in American history.

Interesting: the State Department’s procurement forecast detailing a $400 million order for "armored Tesla" has now been edited to "armored electric vehicles." The document shows the edit was made tonight at 9:12 p.m. -- after it was highlighted in reports

Elon Musk to reporter: “We post our actions to the DOGE website. All of our actions are maximally transparent. I don’t know of a case where an organization has been more transparent than the DOGE organization.” Here’s the doge.gov website IN ITS ENTIRETY. It’s literally a blank page!

I've got to say, the guy who accidentally became the Director of the FBI does 100% look like the guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI in a mid-2000s comedy about a guy who accidentally becomes the Director of the FBI

HOLY F**KING S**T! This is **INSANELY** risky!

Okay, let's keep going. Got another one today looking at just how absolutely fucking crazy it is that an inexperienced Musk-lackey is apparently pushing untested live code to America's checkbook. Tried to contextualize all of it. www.techdirt.com/2025/02/05/a...

i just cannot get over how much the administration’s response to the crash shows a profound disrespect for the lives of the people they are supposed to serve

If Joe Biden fired 100 FAA employees and a plane crash happened just a few hours later, Fox News would bring Lou Dobbs back from the dead with wall-to-wall coverage blaming it on Biden.

I’m careful not to get too excited about special election shifts, but D+21 and D+15 swings are significant movements. We should be casting wide nets for House and Senate seats in 2026. Recruit strong candidates everywhere. If we’re going to create a blue wave, it starts with quality recruitment now.

This chart shows how much of an outlier Trump is historically. Even Biden, who had the next highest disapproval when he took office, still had a plus-20 differential. news.gallup.com/poll/655955/...

I tweeted this eight years ago as many Silicon Valley leaders openly protested Donald Trump's ban of people from Muslim-majority countries. Some of these same leaders celebrated Trump at his recent inauguration.

I saw this quote from a speech Pete Buttigieg gave this month, and it’s been in my head all damn day: “Wouldn’t you rather it be you?” What a clarifying, inspiring call to action. Well said. 👏
