Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

Talarico: "We just found out that [Elon Musk] is almost single-handedly bankrolling this effort to install Ken Paxton in the U.S. Senate and defeat this movement...Elon Musk wants our land. He wants our water. He wants his very own personal United States senator. He is trying to buy Texas."

1. The Congressional Review Act which rescinds agencies can pass on a simple majority. 2. Congress can sue as a representative body. 3. Congress can change its own internal rules to allow citizen petions to the floor.

Sam Bagenstos@sbagen.bsky.social

I'm all in favor of setting realistic expectations -- there are limits to what a Dem-controlled Congress can do to restrain Trump, no one thing will ever "save us," and we need broader institutional reform -- but this piece undersells what Congress can do. www.liberalcurrents.com/checks-and-b...

The U.S. has left Europe’s anti-corruption watchdog. America’s withdrawal from GRECO comes alongside decreases in FCPA enforcement, the end of DOJ’s Kleptocracy Asset Recovery Initiative, and other reductions in U.S. anti-corruption efforts. Read more from Ambassador Marc Ostfield: bit.ly/472N70f

I prefer the incremental solution that can be implemented through bare-majority legislation (240 Supreme Court justices) to Third Way's radical plan, which requires fully amending the Constitution (term limits)

Emily Crockett@emilycrockett.bsky.social

Hey @politico.com can you explain why @thirdway.bsky.social is the source for what the Democrats' SCOTUS platform will be, when they don't even have the word "Democrat" in their name and routinely diss the party? I'll wait.

BREAKING MS NOW: Trump aide Natalie Harp worked at the White House without a security clearance for more than a year. Harp declined multiple times to seek a routine security clearance normally obtained by West Wing staffers to work at the White House.

Trump posted a map on Truth Social labeling the Strait of Hormuz as "New U.S. Territory". In response, the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran mocked the statement online by sharing a satirical map labeling the United States as a new territory of Iran, leaving out California. 🤣

“A single-payer universal health care system could cover every American, save more than 100,000 lives a year, and still cost $1 trillion less than the system it would replace, according to a new preprint study led by researchers at the Yale School of Public Health.” ysph.yale.edu/news-article...

If the people responsible for foreign policy in the Trump administration were actively trying to destroy the US's global influence, and thus its power, it's hard to imagine what they'd have done differently in the last few days - let alone the last 18 months.

Ruth Deyermond@ruthdeyermond.bsky.social

And here we are, three weeks in. Unmanaged hegemonic decline doesn't really do justice to either the speed or the lack of control - less like an unmanaged decline and more like a drunk gibbon roller skating down a greased ski-jump.

I am with @samhalpert.bsky.social; just impeach Miller, Vought and Hegseth, and then after that is done, Trump. You have to make the point that we don’t need any more information b/c the whole Administration is so infested with open and naked malfeasance, we can charge and figure it out.

Sam Halpert@samhalpert.bsky.social

And @housedemocrats.bsky.social somehow think that they need hearings to determine whether this is actionable. If they do this they send a message to the public that this kind of naked corruption might somehow be legal—depending on details yet unknown. Big mistake. www.thestate.com/news/nation-...

So now the next step is to find out what Capital One's months-long anti-money laundering review by professionals with decades of law enforcement experience discovered about Trump's 300+ accounts...

Major Jason Watson wore his Air Force uniform to the Capitol, named 13 service members killed by Trump's illegal strikes, and demanded impeachment. Capitol Police arrested him for it. The criminals who ordered those strikes are still free. The man who told the truth about them isn't. Remember that.
