Artificial Intelligence and Creative Writing: A Policy of Sorts. I've posted versions before, but I update this each term following conversations with students. Here's my Fall '26 edition. In no way definitive! Learning as I go.

a lot of correct criticism of outsourcing knowing your child to AI; but also what is this list? i could get a better description by picking up an alt weekly and reading the wrong horoscope (RIP). it's generic, meaningless. so overwhelmed by complexity you choose meaningless de-humanization.

Elizabeth Holmes is not the face of motherhood for incarcerated women. Jazmin Valentine wailed in agony for 6 hours in labor while staff and nurses LAUGHED at her. She had to resort to sliding her amniotic sac under her cell door to prove she was in labor.

Just walked out of You Can See Everything and of course many thoughts but are people noting that this speculative nonfiction is also a sci fi? First Solaris, then toward end of time w/ “Liz” becomes Bugonia then w/ who’s next—no spoiler—it’s They Live & then in NYC Blade Runner, explicitly via music

Also, experience of watching it in a packed theater roaring with laughter—I laughed too—was horrifyingly close to the end of the massively underrated Digger. Far more the companion to You Can See Everything than Oppenheim’s undercooked Primetime.

Late adaptor here, just catching up now with the *depth* of this shit pit. Let my relative "moderation" -- I'm not really a screamer -- give extra oomph when I say this is *an enemy.* Not of any faction--an enemy of us all, even if you're a fool who imagines you're this murderbot's friend.

“Palantir cofounder and CEO Alex Karp states ‘AI will undermine the influence of highly educated, often female voters and give it to working class men. We have feminine energy running our cities and our courts,’ he complained.”

This seems like a Nathan Fielder skit but it's real. "Real." *Real*??

CNN@cnn.com

Since its release, "You Can See Everything" has taken pop culture by storm — and Nathan Fielder is emerging as the documentary's unlikely sex symbol. https://cnn.it/4yB7lsY

More "akshually" from the guy a small but too-large number of people who consider themselves liberal or left have duped themselves into thinking "has a point." He's not an anti-zionist, he really is an antisemite. He's not a populist, he's a fascist, dreaming of a "pureblood" nation.

Even if the Republican wins, as remains likely, this is a huge amount of change that doesn't just evaporate after the election.

🚨NEW STORY🚨 Farmer Jamie Davis is closing the gap as he bids to be Louisiana’s first Black U.S. Senator since Reconstruction, leaving Julia Letlow without the sure victory Republicans had hoped for. "This is not going to be a slam dunk," a pollster warns. thelensnola.org/2026/10/23/j...

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Another way to look at the political calendar is that it's really like December 23, 2020, right now. About 14 days til J6. I'm NOT saying there will be another coup attempt, but just as so many dismissed those who spoke of what seemed like the obvious heightened danger of a "weak" Trump...

I'm just glad to see that David Lynch is working again. Death slowed him down, but this is some of his most unnerving material. And dead Dennis Hopper, as "the president," is at his melting-cheekbones, oxygen-deprived creepy best!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

😳 Trump loses it and SNAPS at a string of reporters, says Ilhan Omar might "go to jail," calls Somalia "a shit house," and boasts that thanks to a new program he announced today Americans "will make millions of dollars by turning others in" during absolutely deranged Oval Office event Supercut:

These are inconsequential little writing exercises, seeing exercises, forcing-myself-to-talk-to-strangers exercises. They aren't making a point or a joke. Social media, understandably, favors points and jokes, but too many of either, too fast, too repetitive, makes it harder for me to see others.

Shooting at a car to stop a shoplifter is not justified. Even if no one was harmed, let alone shooting to death a 1 year-old baby.

Ashton Pittman@ashtonpittman.bsky.social

JUST IN: The police shooting that killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley as he sat in his mother’s lap in a Walmart parking lot in Senatobia, Miss., in June “was justified,” Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office said on Monday. Her office will not charge the white officer who shot the child.

And it’s not just the centrists doing this. Some popular “left” (read: tankie) sites have been doing a lot of “akshually” on behalf of Tucker & MTG, too. The gullibility/opportunism/head-in-the-sandism is staggering.

The New York Times and NPR recently failed to convey just how extreme the former Fox host’s views have become.

Reading my hometown paper, Schenectady Gazette, chronicle of the long demise. On nearby Gloversville: “those brownfields are unlikely to ever house factories… ever again.” The dooming double “ever.”

Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY

My two cents on a book worth a lot more than that—why, I think you shld buy it in hardcover. I shared an except w/ my students because I never *assign* hardcovers. It’s so good a bunch bought it anyway. Worth every penny.

Pitchforks. Also: THIS is some reporting. Yes, Bezos’ WaPo. And these fearless reporters—7 named, + all the editors and production folks—named Bezos in the piece, too. Also: this is a gift link, but this took resources, and time. Pay for your fucking news. Don’t steal labor. wapo.st/4yiUDPx

wapo.stSecret documents reveal donors behind $330 million for Trump’s ballroomThe records offer a panoramic view of a fundraising campaign that is extraordinary for its size and opacity.

Meanwhile, the editorial board of WaPo publishes this idiocy, as if cronyism, hundreds of years in, isn’t the essence of capitalism. If you don’t know diff between an editorial and an op-ed, or the diff between the op-ed page and the rest of the paper, time to learn.
