The racks the people surrounded were also blazing, the people’s furious faces lit up red by the fire. The title of the book, the letters rendered to look like they too were ablaze, was: KILL THE MACHINES! How a fringe environmental movement became the most dangerous force in America. #Booksky

On the cover of the thick paperback was a photo of a huge pile of what looked like wooden racks. Surrounding the racks was a group of people holding torches. That old-fashioned kind you only see in old movies. Long sticks with large, lively ovals of fire blazing at the top. #Booksky

“I did use Open Artin at home, actually. But all I got were sensational clips about eco-terrorism. And then I got hit with five Miller warnings. I don’t know why, but I cut the connection. I thought you’d be a better source.” She laughed nervously. “Why me?” “You’re a librarian.” #Booksky #scifi

“Um, usually the fastest way to find out about available resources is Open Artin.” She gestured toward a table with a computer on it. I realized then the man was no longer there. He’d somehow slipped away after she’d glanced at him. #Booksky #WIP

“What do you know about Ludds?” Her cheek muscles stiffened. The warmth of her smile slipped a notch. “Ludds?” she said in a tight voice. “Yeah. You know, the anti-tech people.” She glanced at the man on the sofa, then, as though catching herself, shot her eyes quickly back to me. #booksky #books

Folks, if you hate authoritarianism, you should be feeling good this morning. In Serbia, a student-led movement just ousted a longtime strongman, peacefully. And we Americans should be paying attention, because we have a chance in November to send a similar message. (link below)

Can I collect the million dollars Trump is offering for voter fraud tips if I report him for voter fraud for offering a million dollars for voter fraud tips? #voterfraud #trump #election #midterms

My heart leapt and I quickly switched back to the normal programming mode. I’d heard the Miller Warnings never actually led to anything, but still, the thought that I was triggering something that would get my name sent to the FBI was terrifying. #Booksky

I switched the O-Screen to computer mode, then used Open Artin to find more information. As I was waving through several sites, I was shocked to see a string of black banners pop up on the screen with the warning: YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO ACCESS MATERIAL CONSIDERED DANGEROUS TO LAW AND ORDER. #Booksky

I couldn’t get that confrontation between Annabelle and the tattooed customer out of my head. For two days, try as I might to vacate it from my mind, it kept lurching back unbidden. Why had the Ludd woman acted that way? #Booksky #books

The doctor smiled and shook his head. “A guy with a tomato, huh?” “Yeah.” “Must’ve been quite a sight.” “A lot of strange people out there.” The doctor nodded thoughtfully. “They nearly outnumber us.” #WIP #Booksky #antiAI #Scifi #midterms #voteblue

This was my chance. I ran up the stairs to my apartment and into my room. I flicked off the paper towel covering my aunt’s shit stain. I gripped the mattress by the edges and pulled it clear of the frame and out the apartment. Then dragged it down the six flights of stairs. #WIP #Booksky #books

My head was boiling with questions for Annabelle. I wanted to know why the daughter of the richest man in the country was working a minimum wage job? Or at all? And why was she interested in me? She was a vastly wealthy thirty-two-year-old and I was an impoverished teen with epilepsy. #WIP #Booksky

“You know, Omni is a megacorporation, but it’s part of a larger cluster of companies, a smattering of small and medium-sized ones, along with a few other multinational conglomerates. Together, we’re what you might could call a macro-mega-corporation.” "Sounds scary," I said. #WIP #booksky

Annabelle’s hair hung loose and shining around her shoulders and the light from the red candle flickered in her mischievous turquoise eyes. Her hands were folded one over the other on the surface of the table. Her fingers were long and delicate, the nails unpainted. #WIP #Booksky

At the center of the table was a red candle, already lit, in a carved glass cup. Annabelle sat across from me, her face framed by a broad, north-facing window and Tucson’s starry night sky. Even in the strong air-conditioning, I could feel the heat pressing through the glass. #Booksky #WIP

Only one table was occupied. Two women, one with an untidy mass of red hair, the other wearing a tank top, her arms copiously tattooed, were leaning close in conversation. They both looked up, too intensely, it seemed to me, as we walked past. #Booksky #WIP #SciFi

I turned to see Annabelle walking toward me. Instead of the formal navy-blue suit, she wore blue jeans and an Old Pueblo T-shirt, the one with the melting ice cream cone. Her blonde hair was no longer tied back but hung straight and loose over her shoulders, golden in the summer sun. #Booksky #books

Even worse, the workers had tooled out and broken up the beautiful kitchen floor tiles Mom has chosen, the ones with the pink flower design, and cut deep runnels into the underlying concrete, where more serpentine black cables, tied into thick bundles, were laid in. #WIP #Booksky #books #readers

The invincible oven with the cranky iron door, the industrial sink so big you could take a bath in it, the walk-in cooler I used to sneak into in order to escape the summer heat, all were exposed, naked, in the open for anyone to see. #WIP #Booksky #Scifi #Books #novels

The big green curtains were drawn and tied open, and I could see inside. And what I saw shocked me to my bones. The tables were piled up in one corner and massive holes had been drilled into the floor. Jumbles of cables spread from the holes all over the floor like thick, black snakes. #Booksky

Mrs. Paige’s gently curling blonde hair was going grey and she’d accumulated a few more pounds. But she still wore the same oval glasses with the thin silver frames, the same sky-blue nail polish, and she still looked across the check-out counter with the same warm, inquisitive eyes. #booksky #WIP

Mrs. Ubyivovk was also there. Cat fur crusted her multi-layered nightgown. I’d never seen her cat, but I knew it had orange fur. Sunlight glinted hot on the fat yellow curlers affixed to her nest of grey hair like chaotically placed anti-terror bollards. #WIP #antiAI #SciFi #Books #Booksky

Q: "Are you concerned about the current plague outbreak in Russia?" Trump: "I am…I hate to see them having it. It's a rough disease. You know, that's a disease we used to be able to control, but somehow those microbes have gotten stronger and smarter."

Daddy let out a frail whimper. I groped wildly in the darkness. Found his shoulder twisting against the wheelchair. Found his cold arm. Found his spasming chest. He called out to me. With the last of his strength, he whispered two words in my ear: Stop them. #booksky #books #booklovers #WIP

“God, Dad, please! Stay with me.” A rustling noise, like water forcing its way through dry leaves, came from his throat. We passed the fifth floor. Then the fourth. The ceiling light wobbled yellow on his hair. From somewhere came a loud, metallic clank and the elevator stopped. #WIP #booksky

“You want a partnership with me?” I was shocked. “Yes,” said Hemingway. “Not a partnership,” said Annabelle. I saw Hemingway’s skin pinken. He crossed his arms. “It’s sort of a partnership.” “No,” she repeated. “Jonah will 100% own the cafe." Hemingway looked at his loafers. “Okay.” #booksky #WIP

Her eyes were a pure turquoise that drew me into their beams as she smiled and extended her hand. It took me a few seconds before I extended my own. When I touched her skin, it seemed to convey a subtle electric charge. #booksky #WIP #scifi #booklovers #AI

Well, this fits neatly with the separation of church and state. #MAGAfascists #impeachHegseth #voteblue #midterms

“Why’s he doing that?” Panic in my voice. “A neural derivative. Completely normal. Here, he’s twitching a little, but in the Omniverse, he’s moving his whole body.” “Dad? Are you okay?” “He can’t hear you. You could hit him with a baseball bat and he wouldn’t feel it.” #booksky

For Bobby, “literature” meant comic books or manga, words supported by lots of drawings. But we nonetheless bonded over other shared nerd pleasures: RPG history games, science fiction and martial arts movies. Bobby was the one who introduced me to “library girl porn." #WIP #authors #writer #books

No more Tucson High for me. I guess I should have been like the other kids, overjoyed, whooping in the hallways as they cleared out their lockers, tossing things back and forth giddily as they crowded out the school gates—but I wasn’t. #WIP #Books #Writing #scifi

The story begins twenty-two years ago, when there was still a place called the United States of America. And I was a mere teenager. Strange to say, my people, but the thing that stands out most in my memory about that day is the homeless guy who was sleeping at one of the tables. #WIP #Writing

Crouper smiled. “Ah, sure. But President Pang is clever.” He tapped the side of his balding head with a nicotine-stained forefinger. “She's not mandating anything. Why? Because she can then deny mandating anything.” #WIP #Writers #Scifi #FuckAI

It’s being reported that explosions are occurring now in Caracas. It’s not certain but plausible these explosions are the opening salvo of the overthrow of a sovereign nation in a bid toward distracting the American public from Trump’s many failures and scandals. #Venezuela #fucktrump #nokings
