📌All the bigots asking why the mayor of New York City is presiding over the remembrance of the 9/11 attacks, need to shut up and explain to us why they support the traitor who attacked us Jan. 6.

Remembering the late great OTIS REDDING — born 85yrs ago today

A Philadelphia nun named Sister Rose Kuhn drives to a Texas immigration court weekly to sit next to unaccompanied children as young as 4 who are facing deportation hearings alone without relatives or an attorney so that they won’t have to face the judge by themselves. Heartbreaking and horrific.

A murmuration of starlings above Sardinia, Italy. One of my favorite natural phenomena.

1. Rick Steves has spent $2 million of his own money to rescue a single-screen theater in Edmonds, WA. This is part of a multi-million-dollar effort he has made to invest in community properties in order to preserve local institutions and keep them serving the communities they were built for.

This is what karma looks like.

Ahead of the midterms, Trump isn’t even being subtle about his brazen politicization of federal disaster relief aid, explicitly tying approvals to campaign endorsements and election results. It’s one of the underappreciated scandals of his second term. www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

For many years, ICE didn't have its own medical claims processing for detainees, running 3rd party medical bills through the VA's system. Last year, right-wing influencers convinced the Trump admin to abruptly cancel this contract. With no replacement, ICE specialized medical care has gone unpaid.

Breaking News: Cassandra Wilson, an award-winning jazz singer who became one of the most distinct voices of her generation, has died at 70.

After "pretending" to take testimony seriously, Tarrant County commissioners in Texas voted 3-2 Tuesday to approve a Republican list of polling sites for the November Midterm elections that will cut 92 polling sites. www.texastribune.org/2026/09/01/t...

The brutality and inhumanity of ICE continues to grow www.nytimes.com/2026/08/30/w...

"This September will mark one year since the U.S. military began bombing boats and summarily executing people in the Western Hemisphere. Congress’s response has demonstrated an unfamiliarity with human rights law and how it governs military action in peacetime," writes @seharrison7.bsky.social.

Dolly Parton's family asked that, in lieu of flowers, fans make a donation to the singer's Imagination Library. Here's what the charity does ⬇️ www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

A stunning yellow rose for our beautiful departed Dolly Parton, her favorite #flower. They reminded her of picking wildflowers as a little girl and felt like a "little ray of sunshine". I can't express the devastation at losing such a bright light, a kind and generous soul who helped so many...RIP

Dolly Rebecca Parton RIP, ❤️ US singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actress, author, businesswoman and humanitarian #WomensArt

Dolly Parton, among a thousand other amazing things she did in her life, gifted over 330 million books to kids through her Imagination Library program. Her passing is a tremendous loss to the world, but you can support the program today to keep it going imaginationlibrary.com

Reminder: Dolly Parton helped fund the Moderna vaccine for COVID.

The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, a music legend and titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library program has earned multiple Library Literacy Awards and, in 2018, she visited us to donate its 100 millionth book to our collection and host a story time. 🦋❤️

NEW: ICE data released under the Freedom of Information Act reveals that more than half of all ICE arrests are now people with no criminal record; no prior convictions or pending charges. In the first week of August, 55% of all ICE arrests were of people with no criminal record.

Yes, police in Texas used data from a nationwide network of over 83,000 automated license plate reader cameras to track down a woman suspected of an abortion. The surveillance sparked significant privacy concerns and investigations into how out-of-state law enforcement accesses tracking data.

The Pentagon has never received a passing grade on a comprehensive financial audit. One thing is clear: Vast sums are funneled into costly weapon systems that chronically come in over budget.

Sometimes I think about the giant Tony Soprano statue at the Vilnius train station in Lithuania.

This is insane. New immigration judges, many of whom have never read a single immigration law case in their life before they got the job, are getting just 12 weekdays of training before they go on the bench, and very little of it is on the substantive law.

President Trump wants to soften one of the strongest legal protections American workers have: the right to hold an employer accountable when retirement savings are mishandled. Here's what you need to know: propub.li/4g078bJ

ICE detained and deported a Seattle small business owner. Eduardo does not have a criminal record and has deep ties to the community.

Somehow things that would have been a background gag in a Verhoeven movie are now just real

News: The U.S. economy grew at a disappointing 1.5% in the 2nd quarter of 2026. Congratulations to @sarahbca.bsky.social for her “Bookmark this” comment last December when Howard Lutnick said 2Q of 2026 would be “amazing.” @atrupar.com

This administration truly cannot live down the assessment that they'd all prefer to be podcasting than doing their actual jobs.

Hurling F-bombs at an 85-year-old scientist who won’t fight back doesn’t make you tough. Staying silent after your own daughter accused Rep. Max Miller of holding a gun to her head, pushing her against a wall, and fracturing your granddaughter’s collarbone makes you a coward.

The honeysuckle vine on my pergola is showing off today.
