So the UK government wants us to prepare ourselves for climate and other impacts. More water and tinned food, that kind of thing. While they approve a new gas field. So, essentially: "Get ready on your own for problems we're not trying to avoid."

4. Policy is chemical or pesticide specific. One could be restricted or banned, or even just subject to informed consent when trading. But farmers use several pesticides, which have cumulative effect.

Alexandra Fasulo runs one of the most prolific anti-solar campaigns online, regularly telling over 2 million followers renewable energy is threatening farms and wildlife. But how much of her rhetoric is actually true? @alexhannaford.com spent months parsing through the nuance for HEATED:

The UK's June heatwave caused a £2.4bn hit to productivity, says a new report It says the cost of extreme heat could reach £6bn/yr by 2030 Interesting, bc we tend to focus on the cost of cutting emissions, rather than cost of failing to do so… www.verdantthinking....

RENEWABLES: They're still wildly popular with the British public, not that you'd realise from news coverage * Only 4% are opposed Even for wind/solar farms in your local area, opposition is very low * 74/68% would either be happy to have a local solar/wind farm, or don't care

Some wonderful news from Sandilands as avocets have been breeding for the first time since this former golf course was transformed into a new coastal wetland nature reserve. And avocet chicks have been spotted! 🎉

🏭 Two PFAS-producing companies and the French government have been accused of violating numerous human rights in letters from UN officials. The letters are regarding residents living in a polluted area South of Lyon known as Chemical Valley. More in our news story 👉 buff.ly/TxLNW1U #Pollution

I've had to change all my "quickmarks." I used to have shortcuts related to writing - sentence fragments, paragraph structure, etc. Now it's almost exclusively: citation needed, evidence missing, explain the connections, etc. I guess it's mostly because of superficial AI slop.

The Ottawa process in the mid 1990s brought together 50 countries and key NGOs to discuss a way forward. The UN process on conventional weapons was deadlocked. The dangers were clear and known. But a few countries used them widely and worried about clean-up costs... Sound familiar?

The Ottawa process sparked a movement that led to the Ottawa Treaty. It bans landmines. It's not perfect; some countries didn't sign. Fossil fuel production doesn't directly map on. They're more entrenched in national budgets. Ottawa shows how bravery & honest discussion can lead to much more.
