Started filling the holes in my vise jaws before I get set up to drill new, straighter holes w/the drill guide I bought recently. Also gonna make a third block of wood with the same trio of holes to keep the vise straight and reduce racking. (center one first to make sure I can do this right)

The back of the inner vise jaw always had this chunk missing as it was the least-worst random scrap of wood I had on hand. Finally getting around to cutting it out and patching the hole.

It seems weird that, even as a subscriber to a Twitch channel, you can't use that channel's _follower_ emotes on #Discord without Nitro (where normal subscriber emotes will work just fine).

Any indie devs participating in NextFest that want me to check out their demo on stream this week? I'm primarily interested in: - systemic/logic puzzle games with limited narrative (like Gentoo Rescue) - fast-paced arena FPS (like Devil Daggers) - 2d boss combat (like Cuphead) #indiegamedev

Valve should increase the fee to publish AI-using games on Steam to $5000, then put all of the the extra fee money into some sort of fund for non-AI indie game projects to apply for. It'd piss off Tim an unimaginable amount, and probably stop most AI games from listing on Steam.

I ended up disassembling all of that mess and I'm gonna use the table top as the foundation for a slightly better temp workbench (vaguely based on the model I'm working on in blender).

One of my goals with it is to primarily just use as much of the remaining scrap/pallet wood I've got on hand rather than buy new stuff. Later when I feel more confident (& know what I even want), I'll look at spending the money to build a more robust workbench.

Just gotta figure out what I'm doing to brace the legs a bit, and I guess whatever I'll be doing so the legs can be taken off (hopefully in chunks) so the workbench can be disassembled / moved as needed.

This is basically what I'm tearing apart. One of those cheap folding tables I've been using as a workbench. Originally I had mounted the vise to it (in a horrendously crappy way), and then placed gallon bottles of water on long planks of wood under it as a weighted shelf.

(also, yes I realized after the fact that creating a cylinder uses radius and not diameter, which explains why the dogholes seemed unusually large. Gonna shrink 'em later)

It's pretty heavily set up for a sequel though, so that might be the redemption arc for the ending. I'd play that in a heartbeat.

Got most of the way through making a little jar for paste wax ( #woodworking ). Gotta do some cleanup and then maybe apply stain, and then apply finish (maybe just the paste wax I'm gonna put in it, lol). Got the paste wax waiting in the double-boiler waiting to be re-melted and poured in.

It's an interesting combination of irony and schadenfreude when companies that are shilling AI and fucking their customers start getting their shit reverse-engineered by AI. If the earth-destroying plagiarism machine is "inevitable", at least have the decency to go after our corporate masters.

Hand-planing pallet wood continues to be good exercise, and it's the primary reason why I keep at it rather than just buying new wood. Though some of the wood is good, too - and I should be trying to avoid blowing a bunch of money on materials before I've got more #woodworking experience.

(I desperately need to lose a ton of weight so getting something that's half core and half cardio out of hobby stuff I wanna do anyways seems like a good fit. Sweating a bunch, at least...)

It's been a month, spill it. What did you people do to the pickles?

Jerp@jerpdoesgames.bsky.social

What happened to pickles lately? Seems like everyone started selling slices and spears and no more wholes.

Already done a few streams of #FullQuiet after watching @shaxn.bsky.social play it earlier and I'm impressed w/how good the game is so far. Brutal oldschool metroidvania with a lot of interesting exploration and puzzle stuff and it trusts the player to figure it out.

Also, apologies for the lack of streams lately. Been very moody and I've been retreating into the garage to meditate and pretend I'm good at woodworking. Some of it also happens to be good exercise, and it's probably a major contributor to my recent weight loss.

I have to admit that when I see people who already seem relatively functional and productive start looking into adhd treatment or sleep studies/cpap machines I'm like "...but those are my cheats..." Some day I'll get the other stuff figured out, I guess.
