๐Ÿ“ brlka.com/posts/2026-0... new blog post! this one's about designing "avoiders", the term i've been using for all my tiny arcadey games about dodging obstacles. imo these are really underrated design exercises, and i'd love to see more people give making them a shot (esp. since they're so easy!)

characters with big heads are for babies. I've been designing a character with the smallest possible head, for more mature audiences. I think this will be very marketable to gamers

I'm a huge fan of @foddy.net's work, and I'm just so tickled that my first-ever conversation with him was mostly him gushing about how good Super Mario Sunshine (his favorite Mario, and mine) is, why, and how it's informed his work over the years.

We chatted with Bennett Foddy โ€” best-known for QWOP, Getting Over It, and the award-winning Baby Steps โ€” about why Super Mario Sunshine is his favorite Mario game: it's hot, it's joyful, and it's surprisingly urinary. https://kotaku.com/getting-over-it-baby-steps-qwop-super-mario-sunshine-2000701168
