Monkey’s paw hazards here because lack of a policy opens things up for MAGA or thin blue line crosswalks. So stop asking to speak to the manager and just do it in the middle of the night. Rainbow all the crosswalks and then break into the DPW and wrap the vehicle fleet with the trans pride flag.

In 2020, Portland, Oregon, legalized middle housing on single-family lots through its Residential Infill Project (RIP). The results? 1,400 new homes in just a few years, each about $300K cheaper than a typical single-family home in the same neighborhood.

for halloween i'm going as the plus in 2 br+ - probably a room with no windows (spooky) - potentially a walk-in closet that can fit a lot of monsters - let's be real: they're going to put a school-age kid in there you'll have to pay to educate

Found some useful Sightline content, including www.sightline.org/the-pro-home... Instead of talking about "density bonus" I'll say, "the zoning bylaw encourages homebuilders to preserve things that we like, and in exchange we provide the opportunity to build less expensive homes."

What's another term for "density bonus" or "developer incentive" that's not as triggering for the folks who villainize developers?

Hearing people argue over what's the right number of historic preservation hoops that should be jumped through to qualify for a density bonus, it really feels like it's more about preventing giveaways to greedy developers than it is about saving historic structures.

isn’t it amazing how long the stakeholder list has to get when we try to do anything that’s not about making more cars go vroom?

The guest list for this historic boulevard summit included leaders from every relevant city department and advocacy group, plus some of the greatest local minds in landscape architecture.

So we went before the Landmarks Board with our scaled back plan. Three of us—SDOT, the *President of the Queen Anne Historical Society* and I—argued our case...but the Board rejected the plan. Casting her vote in opposition, one Board member commented "Why does safety have to be so ugly?"

Am I missing something? You can’t even see most of it because of the dispensaries, beer garden, shake shack, IHOPs, et al, built up around it. $400k of CPA money wasn’t enough to address a situation described as a “prairie dog village but for rats”? Can we move on?

Which of my representatives will sponsor my proposed legislation? It’s called An Act To Strip Historical Commissions of Most of Their Powers and Prevent Jay Luker From Becoming the Joker.

Replying to @norton.bsky.social

Door-to-door school bus routes, two-car families and chauffeured children did not become common because people preferred them. They were the costly consequence of decades of planning that presumed falsely that everyone drives a car.

a lot of the reactions to this could be characterized as whomstians with status quo interests co-opting the language of social justice. the goal here is energy efficiency retrofitting. the climate can’t wait for your demolition delay.

i think Dean’s mistake here is not accurately labeling what he’s describing as Total Boomer Luxury Communism

The “head of strategic futures” at OpenAI just went on an unhinged rant against social security sometimes I feel like these tech companies are actively trying to alienate as many normal people as possible

If you live in #mapoli's Second Middlesex District, I heartily recommend that you consider voting for Burhan Azeem @burhanazeem.bsky.social for State Senate. Burhan is the most talented & impactful young leader I've met in a very long time: smart, creative & knows how to get things done.

Eh, ok. Looking at the source & methodology, out of a pool of 250 Gen Z Betterment survey responders identified as “traders”, meaning they were doing more than the basic 401k stuff, 26% of those said sports betting was part of their overall financial plan.

Before Mass. voters approved the millionaire’s tax in 2022, only one fixed-route bus crossed into New Hampshire: @mevatransit.bsky.social Route 13! It connects Haverhill, MA & Plaistow, NH, which launched in 2020! 🚌 In April 2026, MeVa Transit Route 28 began connecting Lawrence, MA & Salem, NH! 🤝🏻

Today I’m learning about the time Chicago’s mayor, Jane Byrne, moved into the Cabrini Green public housing project. It did not go well, but, based on my at this point extremely superficial knowledge of the situation, it feels like you kinda gotta hand it to her. headstuff.org/culture/hist...
